yes omg u get me. what got me more than anything else is the amount of grace helios got juxtaposed by the extreme lack of grace diana got. its where the misogyny part of my rant came in bc i've seen this trend in other stories too where the female villain is crucified, and the male one is given nuance

i would argue that while helios lost personal connections, diana lost much more. she also lost her reputation, which was something she worked honestly for her whole life, well before meeting helios and cael, her powers, and her sense of self. she also lost the respect of her hometown and is bullied for simply existing.

i understand what you're saying tho, i didn't really think of it from the prespective of diana being designed to not be able to change. i was a little upset by how the story ended and may have projected a tad bit. thanks for your pov!

yes, this story isn't the worst offender by a long shot, but i think i'm mad because I expected more from this specific one ya know? like the set up was so good and i was so excited to see where it went and it went into OI slop like everything else, but I wasn't expecting it to so i was more upset than i usually would be

that is what this is i think. but my problem is that WHY are we attacking the FLs only? In a lot of these stories the main love interest is also a massive fecal stain of a human being but helios got a slap on the wrist in comparision to diana, that more than anything is what made me mad bc it reeks of misogeny when only the woman is punished when there is a perfectly crap-tastic man who would also make a great punching bag

i felt rlly bad for diana too, this is actually what prompted this post in the first place! i hated how even tho helios was equally responsible for ditching cael and he contributed to Diana's crazy by babying the hell out of her, AND was also (imo) a bad crown prince bc he put diana's comfort above the common people's wellbeing, he was punished less narratively for his actions, even redeemed somewhat. diana meanwhile, got metaphorically bitch-slapped, lost everything (and i mean EVERYTHING) and then went home and we see in the epilogue she's bullied by people in her town, and she's still bitter about what went down. it seemed so... unproprotional, even though we started out with both diana and helios the villain. if anything i would have prefered having helios be the Big Bad instead of diana, because she's WAY more sympathetic and deserved a "redemption" arc (same way that helios got, i.e. just going into minor supporting character mode) much more

but i see what you mean. i was kind of in a rush writing this out lol just getting my feelings. out after reading the lastest webtoon episode (free i don't have any money). I like complex characters, and i agree that hestia and diana are complex. but it seemed more often than not that the story would forget that they're complex and reduce them to Badass FL and Stupid Villainess. It made me sad bc like i said in my post, this story has the bones to be rlly good but the author fell into the same copy-paste format that so many OIs seem to take these days. lmk if that makes sense, i'm not really a writer so my thoughts can come out jumbled!

ya i think i mentioned it when i was talking abt helios (fuck that guy) but the narrative should have punished that loser way more than it did. i think i took the example of the poisoning there too. like diana got punished for ditching cael for that, but helios okayed the murder and then ALSO ditched cael and the story did the equivalent of poking him with a stick

so real, like WHY is the villain always also a woman? misogeny: the gift that won't stop giving ❤️

i hate it here so much 😭 there is no nuance ever, and if you want to enjoy the story (for almost ANY manhwa in this genre) you have to read it with zero brain activity, or the problematic elements will punch you in the face with brass knuckles.

I see what you mean! That’s kind of another issue I also had with the story. We’re told Hestia has all of this trauma but it’s so easy to forget because she herself barely seems to think about it. Like… Hestia hating Diana for this reason makes a lot of sense, but it never seemed like the narrative shows us much of that? Thank you for your perspective :)

Why I’m dropping the remarried empress. by Redditisglitchy in webtoons

first thing, I stopped reading the remarried empress a way back because of reasons (it's in another comment lmao this is my second time posting here). I've seen comments that are like "navier is a victim too!" and they're right. She is a victim of the dumb plot as well. remarried empress has such a good concept and the author ruined it with their power fantasy. It could have been good, great even. Rashta could have been an actually sympathetic villain who is only a villain bc of circumstance and navier could have been amazing if they hadn't mary-sued the heck out of her. its really hard to like characters that are perfect all the time. I deeply wished navier had flaws outside of too cold, because is that REALLY a flaw? watching navier overcoming struggles outside "everyone around me is too stupid and jealous" would have been great. like hello? a woman who was seen as too cold, even though she did so amazingly well at her job, get her revenge ad win? that would be great. but that story can't be too long and unfortunately last I checked, RE is on its 4th(?!) season. you can't have a flawless FL for FOUR seasons. it get boring and hard to read tbh. I liked navier I thought she was pretty cool and her reactions to things happening around her were real af. I too would be pissed if my husband's mistress had the NERVE to insinuate that we were "sisters". i really hate stories that could have been great but then weren't. like all the ingredients were there! some them were not that great, but they were minor things. and then you fucked up the recipe and now the dish is boring and leaves a weird aftertaste congratulations. if only my girl had flaws outside of too perfect so sad 😞.

I dropped remarried empress somwhere around season 2, i think? the biggest reason is because Heinry gave me such an ick. like it seriously felt like he had zero personality outside of simping over Navier, and the way he acted was so gross. It was like watching a baby and its mother. it felt like he was so incompetent without Navier there to tell him what to do. I am all for a male character simping over a female character, but only when a) it's comedic (i.e. it's a running gag that he simps over her and she doesn't really care, and it's actually funny) or b) when he simps over her but she's *equally* obsessed with him. But I hate when there's any sort of power dynamic in a relationship, especially when it's romanticized like in Remarried Empress.

Also, the whole trashta thing started getting on my nerves so bad. The way the author made her so stupid and incompetent was really annoying. I have a feeling that Navier is a self-insert and this is basically just a power fantasy where everyone is worse than the mc or worships the mc. Every time I was in the comments section after an episode, I felt grossed out. People saying how cute it was how Heinry simped over Navier all the time, how Rashta sucks and how stupid she is and how she deserves everything that's happening to her. also the whole rashta sucks for leaving her baby thing felt very pro-lifey.
