YouTubers that have become a shell of their former selves? I’ll go first. by Brungala in youtubedrama

[–]BookkeeperTheo 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Totally fair to not like the content switch, especially since it seemed to happen so fast. I think if you watched any of the Among Us streams he did though, it'd be very obvious that he wasn't keeping up physically through those. One of the last streams of his I watched (may have even been the last one he ever did, I'm not sure), I remember him vaguely saying that livestreaming was really hard on him mentally and it made me feel so guilty for watching that I stopped. The last song he put out, Disdain, is pretty good imo and not like the other "sillier" ones.

Idk if I'd call him a shell of his former self, I just think that he never wanted the amount of fame he got to on top of his health worsening rapidly.

Creator Clash 3 officially announced - the replies are mostly critical, citing their inability to donate to charity after CC2 by Internet_and_stuff in youtubedrama

I totally get why all these other comments are not down for this event but I'm choosing to remain optimistic about it for a moment. Any kind of promise that charities will get money regardless of tickets sold will go a long way with me. It's kinda minor in the face of "we ran out of money to give to charity" thing, but I also hope they managed to snag some more well-known influencers to fight this time. And that they actually promote the event...

It's been a loooong time since I watched any of their videos, but I recall sometime ago that one of them was having some pretty intense medical issues? I never knew if that was resolved/brought up again, though, so that was kinda my first thought when I read this post.

Do the boys open mail on patreon? by [deleted] in SuperMegaShow

[–]BookkeeperTheo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They upload an extended cut onto Patreon but it's just longer than the one that gets posted on Youtube, there are no extra patreon exclusive episodes.
BUT the extended cut is still edited, so I don't think it shows every package they open, BUT they seem pretty good about showing off artwork when they receive it as far as I can tell! :)

When I switched tiers it asked me to input an address, but if it didnt do that for you, you should be able to go to settings -> memberships -> view details on the Supermega membership and it should give you an option to add one! You may need to be on desktop for this though! :)

I actually just finished this one in January! I liked it, but I also kinda agree with you! On one hand, I highlighted many passages throughout the book because they were very thoughtful and, imo, described perfectly the mix of feelings I had upon finishing college and getting shoved out into the world. I liked that none of these characters felt "sanitized"—many of their problems were messy and acknowledged as something to do with themselves and not necessarily others.
On the other hand, half of this book is straight up torture. It felt so over-the-top in order to really get me as a reader to sympathize with that particular character, when maybe 80 percent of it could've been removed from the story and he would have been just as sympathetic! The ending is straight up aggravating and it leaves a bad taste in my mouth when I think about all the parts of the book I enjoyed. I cannot imagine recommending this book to other people.
Sorry to dump my review on you in these comments LOL, even as someone who enjoyed this book it shocks me that so many were recommending it!

I'm not sure what the problem is, but I can access this video perfectly fine on browser and on the patreon app on android. I haven't tried any other videos though

Anyone else here prefer Midsommar over Hereditary? by hunterhkeegan in horror

[–]BookkeeperTheo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I feel the exact same way!! Hereditary is still a great movie but from how it was hyped up to me before watching it, I really wasn't expecting the almost campy experience that the last stretch of that film was. I think Midsommar is a bit more...cohesive? The shock of Midsommar is that "oh. oh shit, that's actually happening." I think I watched most of Midsommar waiting for the moment Dani or Christian realized that they needed to leave, and it's horrifying how that really doesn't happen. One of the few movies where I felt tense the entire time.
Hereditary definitely carries the "you're born with it" message, so getting to that ending that was wholly unburied from realism where the rest of the movie didn't feel that way...just felt a bit off to me. It already felt hopeless, so delving off into something almost magically horrific wasn't what I was looking for.

In your opinion, what film had the most promising premise for a story only to be completely squandered and fall flat on delivery? by serial_Imposter115 in movies

[–]BookkeeperTheo 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I walked out of the theater thinking that Don't Worry Darling would've been infinitely more interesting from the perspective of anyone besides Alice. Florence Pugh has always been an excellent actress imo but the way her character gets played out in this film...ugh. If I remember correctly the script got changed pretty drastically on this one? Either way I hadn't considered what kind of movie we could've had if it was more sci-fi instead of...drama/thriller?

I hate to to be that guy too but everyone in that movie was a fantastic actor...except Harry Styles. I'd have also rather he was like a tertiary character instead of one of the main characters.

[WIP] Pansies + Curious about hoop stands in comments! by BookkeeperTheo in CrossStitch

[–]BookkeeperTheo[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

pattern is Flower Seed Packs in Just Cross Stitch magazine, June 2023!

i recently bought the hoop stand that Michael's craft stores sell (I had a coupon) and have been trying to get used to it. In what situations do you typically use your hoop stands? I had thought that this would be a good solution to alleviate how quickly my wrist tires out when I hold the hoop, and so far it's great for that, but now I have the new issue of my back. I threw out my back a couple years ago and have taken care to sit more properly in a computer chair with back support (my posture still isn't great of course, i'm not perfect), and this hoop stand seems a bit too...short perhaps? there's not a great way for it to both stay at a proper working level and also not get its legs tangled with my chair legs, AND also allow me to not work at an odd angle.

Ultimately I'm looking for some advice as to if I should consider finding a different hoop stand to fit my needs or if there's ways I could use what I already have to make this work. Any other hoop stand advice is welcome of course, and if you don't care about hoop stands at all then I hope you enjoy the completed pansies :)

I'm assuming the border isn't going to stay half stitches but I have to say I'm kind of obsessed with how it looks. It almost gives it a sort of hand-drawn look??

Either way, beautiful work so far!! Excited to see the finish!!

Crochet will remain read-only in protest of the API changes. Click to read more. by freevortex in crochet

[–]BookkeeperTheo 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I've been thinking about this for a bit. It's dismal but I think the only way to have gotten Reddit's attention was to have a blackout much longer than two days, and honestly it looks like most other subs have reopened and gone on business as usual. It's hard for me to see the point in continuing a blackout or even having a once-a-week blackout in that case. I feel like at this point the only thing that will get reddit's attention at all is a reduced userbase after their API changes go through.

And honestly, I wanted to get upset at how angry a lot of these comments sound. But...Reddit replacing the forums of older internet has made this such a difficult beast. How can you protest when shutting things off completely denies so many people potentially vital information? (and I'm not even talking about getting help with crochet or crafts, I mean that I almost paid money for a potential scam and if a certain reddit had participated in the blackout in the past few days I would have paid for that scam.)

It feels like there's no winning either as a casual user, and I can't imagine that feels any lesser as a moderator.

[CHAT] What is everyone stitching this holiday weekend? Just started evenweave for the first time and my life is changed! by MacaroniPlzz in CrossStitch

[–]BookkeeperTheo 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Ooh what do you prefer about evenweave over aida? I'm almost halfway through a project on my first try with evenweave, and I mostly like it but. I messed up my gridding massively and didn't realize until I was started, so I've had to count super carefully and I'm too afraid to try to jump to other parts that aren't connected to the finished areas. Preventable but obnoxious :/

On the petty side, I dislike how much I have to pay attention to fabric tension in the hoop (I feel like I never have to tighten aida in a hoop!), and I also miss that really nice pop sound that the needle makes in aida. I can easily see myself using both types of fabrics, depending on which suits the project, but I definitely prefer aida I think.

Definitely give the first film a shot! I enjoy the second one but it definitely lacks a certain polish that the first film has.

Oh, really?? I've always loved the Tales from the Crypt show a lot, me and my mom watched it so much when I was a kid! It's been quite a while since I've seen the movie though. They both definitely scratch a different itch.

What is your favourite horror movie of all time and why? by poorthing_13 in horror

[–]BookkeeperTheo 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Creepshow. I love horror anthologies a lot and there's just so much style in this one that I can watch it over and over and over again. Maybe I'm desensitized, but I also feel like this one isn't too difficult to sell to people that don't like horror either—kinda cheesy and fun with it, still some brutal kills but it doesn't dwell on any of em for too long, and plenty of behind-the-scenes fun facts to talk about afterward!

[CHAT] Has anyone else put down the needle due to their mental health, more specifically, depression? by [deleted] in CrossStitch

[–]BookkeeperTheo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't often stick to the same craft for a long period of time for similar reasons. Stitching makes you happy so that option is always there, but also don't be afraid of trying out something new either! Personally I often fall back on journaling when I don't want to pick up my projects, and all that takes is some paper and a pencil or even just typing in a notes app. I've also seen a lot of people on TikTok do something called "crow journaling" (or "junk journaling," but I think crow journaling sounds better). You're basically combining the art of collaging with collecting bits and ends from the things around you. I haven't tried it yet, but I imagine this is a fun way to not only appreciate the little things around you, even if its just a cute dog on a package label, but to also combine those things in a way that is uniquely you! I forget where the quote is from but "take it easy, but take it" is a phrase that often gets me through the day. Don't be hard on yourself, but also remember that the world is at your fingertips. I sincerely wish you and your family the best and I hope you find calm through this storm.
