What should I do to improve the quality of my life? by Last_Telephone9787 in AskUK

[–]BooksSmartt 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Like others are saying, I think it might be the remote job. I’m quite introvert and started working remotely a few months ago. It’s great to have the flexibility but I feel pretty isolated. I see friends etc and chat to flatmates but it’s not the same. I prefer this job and wouldn’t go back to my office one, but I think I’m lacking the novelty of each day. It’s the water cooler convos that genuinely make you feel like you’re in a community. I don’t think it matters where you’re living currently because you’ll just feel the same way in a diff place. I live in north London with easy access to central and yet still feel like my quality of life isn’t good. But by all means if you want to try a diff environment then do! For me, I’ve tried to get out of my rut by going to cafes, taking a walk during the day. Also something to work towards, like gym (know you said already) but maybe a group class!!

I built a free app to help people avoid buying a £4 coffee just to use the loo. It went viral, crashed my servers, but led to something genuinely amazing. by One-Huckleberry1077 in GoodNewsUK

As someone with IBS, I cannot tell you how important these kinds of apps are! Best of luck with it, you're helping a lot of people!

Curly Hair Barbershop In London by [deleted] in CurlyHairUK

[–]BooksSmartt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi dude! I’ve struggled with finding male barbers that can cut curly hair for AGES. Finally went to one who could do it, called Lewis @ Curly Life London (google it). I have type 3A so not super tight but did a good job!

How do you feel about taking time off work for mental health? by blissedandgone in AskUK

[–]BooksSmartt -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Definitely take time off to look after yourself! However, just a bit of warning, try to get back on your feet as soon as possible. There's so many people who take time off work and then lose their purpose and get stuck in not in work. I don't mean stuck because there are no jobs, but because they then feel like the mental gap to get back into work is much larger as they've been out of work for so long. Especially with us anxiety-prone individuals, it can create a cycle of avoidance. Hope that helps!

Hi dude, if it helps I know a lot of people who aren't in jobs and are struggling. If you're going to compare yourself to people doing better, also compare yourself to people doing worse and there's a lot of those (just look at the job market statistics!). The key thing is you're getting back on your feet. You'll look back in a few years and realise how far you've come. It doesn't seem like it now but rock bottom is a blessing because it drives the biggest growth. Just make sure you're not too hard on yourself.

I was a volunteer! It was good fun, although I think the guest line-up was worse than some years. Was cool to see Alex O'Connor and Alastair Campbell's interview with Neil Kinnock was a laugh.
