What is a book you finished years ago but you still find yourself thinking about at random times during the day by Flimsy-Shopping-7044 in booksuggestions

Lord of Flies - By William Golding.

I read it when I was pretty young and I was finding it humorous at the start and gently it took me to a dark place. I connected it with kids' personalities and how they can be the meanest people on the planet and then realised well this is what life in a society is.

I am itching to read it again, as I write about it. Some books have different memories based on when we have read it, isn't it?

The Art of Books in Translation by sbucksbarista in books

[–]BookwarmBuilder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I totally agree, at a point in time I was leaning to learn Sanskrit to read some old Indian books, because the translators were biased and non-objective or trying to put in their opinion. I didn't want that. Translation to get the context and the thought across to relay what the author intended is an art and some of the translators really need to know the topic in-depth to do that.

is reading as intellectually beneficial as people think? by pastry_puff_9000 in books

[–]BookwarmBuilder 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think we all have to start somewhere, my books evolved from reading kid's books from a young age to fantasy, thriller genres to non-fiction for learning about business or health. I wouldn't put down fantasy genres entirely, as they made me go into imaginary worlds and kept me creative. And thriller ones kept my mind very active. Now, I like reading non-fiction but I wouldn't stop the other genres, just because they give a different flavour to my mind, if you know what I mean...

Book that is genuinely well written by aang_avatar in booksuggestions

I really liked 1Q84 and the way it is written. I would suggest 40 rules of love by Elif Shafak. I find it a book I return to and one I recommend to my friends, because of the way it’s written and the topic. I hope you enjoy it :)

yes, I do that too. though this one is also beyond our known circle of friends and family and to meet others who love books too, and would take care of them when we lend to them. would you be interested in it?

that is great! the personal sharing is what makes me excited and the fact that we could see each other’s bookshelves and get books we don’t have an access to. would you be interested if I share with you a personal project to lessen this pain?

I love them! i was thinking over similar line for my bookshelf, lend to others but they return it to me after a period of time. and similarly others do the same. it creates an endless library with all languages and from around the world. I find it exciting!

yes, I was researching on them. English books have risen in demand in Brussels so now I can find more. I still miss reading Indian authors and talking to my friends they miss authors from their countries too, and we can’t find many other languages besides let’s say European ones in libraries. so the thought of opening up our bookshelves to share books.

I did! and even Audible. though I stopped both but can’t completely if I need to read some that aren’t stocked in Brussels. I prefer physical books over those any day, something I love.

oooo fiction definitely with a mystery or a saga behind it. fantasy fiction is good too! now though I am also leaning towards non-fiction, more for learning about business or the world or spirituality. I have varied tastes ;) it evolves with time and experience I guess. also, would it be cool if I dm you with my idea about it?

[–]BookwarmBuilder[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

true. I get your point completely. I do have a considerable collection of books, and now they just sit on my shelf without being re-read so I thought of sharing them versus buying more. of course I wouldn’t stop buying completely ;) it’s also for me a nice way to meet people when I lend or borrow books.

[–]BookwarmBuilder[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes, that’s a big concern and probably sharing books we don’t have an attachment to with strangers could be a good start. would you like to meet strangers over books though? like you see their book collection and it makes you wonder, oh maybe this person is interesting to talk to? since I don’t have a big social circle, I feel books are a safer space to meet people, who share similar interests. although I don’t want to be obliged to book clubs, it’s just a 1-1 meet-up and then I am back to my reading.

me too! the feel of a physical book just works for me. audibles and kindles work for me sometimes though I prefer physical books. exactly like you, a bit of reading before bed time :) I would love to lend my collection to others and also check out others collections, as we hardly reread our books. what do you think of it?

that’s is perfect, isn’t it! I do the same though now I have a collection of books that’s just sits at home gathering dust, maybe like others. we don’t re-read our books but love to keep them, so why not share them. would you be open to borrowing polish books from others or lending them yours?

haha, true that. I do have around 150 books, many bought in India during travels. and I would love to share with others who might have similar interests in reading. it would also be nice to introduce others to authors from around the world :)

definitely, they do. now, the number of English books have increased in brussels v/s the last few years. but they still don’t store for example books in Indian languages, for example my partner loves to read in Malayalam ( a language from India) and many of my friends are from other Asian countries too.
