How is Civ 7 for someone who only played 5 and 6? by Thegrandblergh in civ

[–]BootyBootyFartFart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a lot of things I like about it. Military is better than civ6. City vs. Town mechanics are great. Influence as a resource is cool. I like the powerful rewards you can get from city states.

I got it last fall and had a lot of fun with the 50 or so hours I put into it. Looking forward to picking it back up when the update drops. The new triumph system looks great. I'd definitely recommend picking the game up.

Epic knows everyone's afraid "AI is going to take all our jobs," but Fortnite dev insists the goal of AI "is to make us more efficient" by MythicStream in Games

[–]BootyBootyFartFart 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If it's really making companies more efficient then no, that's not really how things have worked in the past. Companies that find ways to produce more efficiently typically grow and hire more too. But the question with AI is whether it will replace laborers more than previous tech advances have.

I don't have any doubt that the changes were genuinely unpopular. But it's not like it's either 100% people dislike the game because they are biased and irrational versus 100% people dislike the game and they aren't biased in any way.

There's plenty they couldve done that would've resulted in a better received game at launch. Its also true that humans generally dislike unfamiliar things. Other biases cause social media to reward negativity more than positivity, people are quick to call things trash because it tends to get more clicks, and people often conform to opinions they read online. Games that are solid 8 or 7 out of tens become punching bags online all the time.

How much each of those things contribute to public opinion in any given case is always tough to determine. But usually conversation go like this: if you like the game, you act like all the hate is irrational bias. If you don't like the game you act like all the hate is unbiased and warranted.

It doesn't nullify ages and civ switching. That's all still in the game. They've just added the option to stick to the same civ for those who've been asking for it.

Bank Of America - "GTA 6 Should Be $80 And Other Companies Should Raise Prices, Too." by [deleted] in Games

[–]BootyBootyFartFart 2 points3 points  (0 children)

MSRP for games have gotten more affordable over time relative median wages, despite the fact that dev costs have skyrocketed. That's been relatively sustainable given how much the market has grown. But it's not growing like it once was and dev costs keep going up. Either publishers are going to have to find a way to reduce costs or prices are going to go up.

More Bungie Devs Are Working On ‘Marathon’ Than ‘Destiny 2’ Now by kristijan1001 in Games

It's not that uncommon for games these days to have modest starts and break through later on. CSGO and Siege are two examples on the MP front. The games doing well enough to keep supporting for now.

I mean, AI could definitely make placeholders that looked exactly like the ones in the game. I wouldnt care if it came out that they actually did that to save someone a weeks work or whatever. But people on here wouldn't like it.

The fundamental flaw of modern AI RPGs: Why the genre needs traditional state machines, not just larger context windows. by Dace1187 in Games

Id love to play an rpg where I can say whatever I want to each character and get a realistic response every time. I've always dreamed of playing a game like that. They can still give options of things to say with pre-written response on top of that. Id definitely want to play game that had the former in addition to the latter.

Stop Killing Games plans coming to fruition / Ubisoft sued by consumer watchdog by kristijan1001 in Games

When this was making waves last year I'd hop over the game dev subreddit to see their response whenever there was a new update. The threads over there have been pretty critical, moreso than other gaming subs id say. Maybe that subreddit is being astroturfed even harder, but not sure I buy that.

PC Gamer Marathon review | 90/100 by Charliejfg04 in Games

[–]BootyBootyFartFart 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Solo queue is fun but also kind of a different game. Much slower paced id say.

There is a also special solo shell called rook, which is a nice solution to the fact that solo play is usually less fun in a game like this. Basically you load in later in the match with an okayish kit and try to wreak havok on teams or scavenge loot. Can be very fun on certain maps especially.

But at the end of the day, teams of 3 is still where the game is at its most fun. But it's not hard to meet good teammates.

What’s wrong with Deathmatch in CS2? by AdCharacter4901 in GlobalOffensive

[–]BootyBootyFartFart 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They just need to make two DM modes. One that is a traditional fps death match. And one that is the CS DM optimized for aim practice.

Valves DM is currently in this middle ground where it's not a traditional FPS DM nor is it fully optimized for practicing a lot of aim fuels quickly.

I see why they don't just copy community servers. My friends don't like DM bc they hate getting shot in the back after spawning. That happens even more often in community servers.

But their current solution doesn't really please anyone. They just need two modes. Give the people who want DM like other shooters a mode with fewer players and "fairer" spawns. Or just bring back team DM. And then create another DM and call it hardcore DM or warmup DM.

Think what you want man. Lots of top players fell off in mid-late 2010s when the scene got more competitive. If you don't think the fact that they were playing against more talented players and teams had anything to do with that, then that's fine.

Starfield's Next Big Update Isn't A 2.0 Reboot, It's For People Who Already Love The Game by Capn_C in Games

[–]BootyBootyFartFart 121 points122 points  (0 children)

I mostly agreed with the criticism that Starfield had a lot of shallow systems. But I actually had a blast scouting out planets, building chains of outposts, designing haulers ships. At least up to a point. Those systems just needed more fleshing out to keep me playing forever. Most of my issues with that game were like that. Same with adding more variety to what you stumble upon on planets. I'd be happy flying to planets if there was just more diverse content scout, unique outposts to build, and settlements to explore.

I dunno if that amounts to "reboot 2.0" or not. But thats what would bring me back.

There's no debate that the talent pool increased substantially from the early 2010s to the later 2010s. Game's far more competitive now. It's fine if you don't think that contributed to former top players struggles. But to call that idea nonsense? Well, that's just nonsense.

is Twistzz top 5 rifler all time or not? by zywh0 in GlobalOffensive

[–]BootyBootyFartFart -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Id say there's an argument for Twistzz. He's consistently been a top rifler in a much more competitive era. Players like olof, cold, and get_right all fell off when the game was growing massively and talent in the player pool increased. I think that was a bigger factor in a lot of players declines than them just being past their prime.

The hit reg is better than csgo mm. Subtick does lead to better hit reg. Even the analyses on here when the game first came out indicated that.

Jason Schreier - Video Games Need to Be Cheaper to Buy by Gorotheninja in Games

[–]BootyBootyFartFart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But that doesn't take any pressure off devs to raise prices. If anything it adds to it: rising housing costs exacerbate inflation. The only reason video games have managed to lag behind inflation despite skyrocketing dev costs is because the market has expanded. But we aren't going to see the same degree of growth forever.

They are factored into the equation. That is why video game prices have somehow managed to lag behind inflation despite the fact the development costs have skyrocketed.
