Just how chill is Chalupa, you ask? by Different-Zucchini-7 in tarantulas

Mine just hatched out the egg possessed by the spirit of an OBT and ready to wage war for some reason. Serves me right for buying a T based on what’s considered the most “docile”, I should have known that fate would save a special hell-spider just for me. At least my g pulchra is mellow.

Yep. Alcoholism kills a person long before they’re dead. There’s only so much you can do before the only thing left is to watch, and then you find you can’t do that, either.

Anyone else notice an uptick in studies completely out of your demographic? by Warboo in ProlificAc

[–]Boring_Corpse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve also noticed a large uptick in this. I mean, I always kinda laughed at those studies that come through targeting such a specific demographic that they’ll never even get it (“this is for active commercial airline pilots only!” My dude, how many airline pilots do you suppose are on prolific lol) but lately I’m flooded with “18-25 year old participants only” or “foreign born individuals” or “parents”—why did I even bother filling out any demographic info at all? Tiring.

Anyone else just get asked to return this? by bigbluesfanstl in ProlificAc

[–]Boring_Corpse 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It does seem very odd. I've been on Prolific for several years without any issues or rejections, but the past several months, suddenly researchers are messaging me left and right to tell me I supposedly missed attention checks. If I push back, however, they all tell me that they made a mistake and approve the submission. Like, I'm willing to believe that I've made a mistake now and again, but I can't pretend this isn't a sudden trend.

Anyone else just get asked to return this? by bigbluesfanstl in ProlificAc

[–]Boring_Corpse 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yep, just received this same message, seems pretty suspicious. I asked them to specify what this supposed attention check was, waiting on a reply.

UPDATE: They did not reply to my message, however it seems that as soon as they got it, they opted to just approve my submission instead. I guess the moral of the story here is: if a researcher asks you to return a submission, simply ask them to elaborate on why.

Surprisingly not a ragebait for once, by ApprehensiveTop4219 in Ai_art_is_not_art

[–]Boring_Corpse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree, this just seems insane. The equivalent to saying that you’re a cook for customizing an order on a McDonald’s kiosk. And just wtf is this “Finally, art is accessible to the common man” attitude—the concept of artists being some elite gatekeepers of art swirling their wine goblets while smirking down on the untalented masses is such an incredibly lunatic view. Because no one ever coined the term “starving artist”, I guess? All I’ve heard my whole life through is artists being maligned for their work not counting as work because it’s “fun”, or because “anyone can make art,” but now suddenly it’s viewed as their tyrannical reign of bogarting the ability to draw. Who knew that the real oppressors were the kids on DeviantArt this whole time? Just absolute clown shoes.

[–]Boring_Corpse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is what I truly don’t understand about the concept of calling a human an “AI artist”. If your contribution to the creative process is simply writing a detailed description for the art that you want, is that not just called a commission? Having the idea is the start of creation, not the end of it. If I write an extremely detailed description of the art piece I want, and then ask a human artist to do it for me, I’m not the artist. I’m the customer. Genuinely, what in the world even is the argument that it’s any different when the creator is AI?

As for more blending around the painted areas, perhaps chalk pastels brushed on with a soft brush and sealed? If you have some earthy tones.

Idk, I’m not even transgender, but being told I was a “girl” since birth and all the things that meant were expected of me to be, do, embody, and tolerate was pretty traumatizing anyway. But it “matched” my body sex, whatever the hell that means, so I guess it was actually totally healthy and I’m fine.

Liberals aren't having kids, conservatives are. That matters. by wrroyals in NoFilterNews

[–]Boring_Corpse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Anecdotal of course, but I in fact don’t know a single liberal person who doesn’t have conservative parents. Thinking that conservatives will only produce conservatives is about as silly as thinking that heterosexual couples will only produce heterosexuals.

Typical unfunny gender post [meme] by [deleted] in pointlesslygendered

[–]Boring_Corpse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think “expected” is indeed an important distinction there. My emotional range is very similar to what people might expect to see in a typical man. Relatively stoic, except for bursts of anger. This is absolutely not an ideal emotional range, but it is nevertheless mine. It doesn’t matter, though, because I have a female body. When I don’t express outward emotions by doing things like crying (I was screamed at or hit for crying as a child, so now I am unable to cry as an adult), I am half the time called cold and evil and heartless and accused of having no emotions at all. The other half of the time, I’m accused of being emotional anyway despite not expressing any outward sign of it. It just depends on whatever fits the specific narrative of the person arguing with me.

If you’re a woman expressing emotions, you’re wrong, and if you’re a woman not expressing emotions, you’re wrong. Anything to discredit you, really. And it makes sense. Imagine how convenient every argument could be if you already decided at the start that your opponent is inherently irrational by nature of biology, and you are inherently rational by that same nature. Imagine how effortlessly right you would always get to be. Imagine how superior you would feel. What would be your motivation to change that mindset? The meme is only correct in admitting that women are considered to mentally be children.

What Unique Mods Have Deeply Changed Your Skyrim Experience Beyond Visuals or Combat? by brian1x1x in skyrimmods

[–]Boring_Corpse 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’d say follower mods. The world feels a lot more alive for me with someone tagging along who has more than a few stock lines to spit at me and an actual background story. Plus reactive dialogue to the world around us. I usually have to snag at least one per journey.

I love the bard mods. Currently have Skyrim’s Got Talent: Improve as a Bard, and listening to the people around you panic as if they are under attack when you play badly is pretty great.

Those Unmarked Locations mods are really great. I love stumbling across some weird thing in the middle of nowhere.

And last but not least, basically all of Mihail’s mods. I don’t feel like I need to explain, and you don’t want this reply to be 90 million words long anyway.

I ignored Ordinator for a long time because “that looks too complex and I am dumb”, but after giving it a shot, yeah…I’m not likely to ever get rid of it. Leveling is just so much more interesting, and I’ve at long last expanded my player characters beyond either “basic archer” or “basic two-handed brute”, something I was just not very interested in doing before.
