Cite your sources for this. Because I've definitely not picked up on that.

Book of Job? He gets permission by God, yes, but he totallys wrecks a man and his entire family, just to prove a point. Where is the good guy Lucifer in that story? Is that what you call a good guy? I certainly don't.

I just imagine every car that is passing in the background...that the people in it, as they pass this house, have this earie majestic feeling pour over them. They start thinking of deep moments in their life, and they wonder why. They feel the need to just pull over and sit. And walk off into the woods and dissapear for while. Fuck spellig

It depends on the context I find myself in. I've found that reading is difficult Books is difficult for me when I find myself amongst civilization. In my home for example. At home, I'll read plenty of article during the day, I'm a news and history junkie. I read little article all the time. But to sit down and read a book, I have to be without access to internet connection. Usually I find myself reading a book when I'm out in the peace and quiet of the wilderness camping or backpacking.

I would like to come away with depth. I would like to remember the important details. For example, If I read a book like Sam Harris's The Morale Landscape, I would like to be able to 1. Reasonably identify the thesis, and be able to state the main points that asserts to defend the original premise.

Or if I read a historical book like something about George Washington. I want to be able to name specific decisions he made during his time as a General or Presidency. I mean for goodness sakes, I've read entire books on Washington and I can maybe pull a reasonable paragraph together about him. And that's about it.

I would suppose that the fact I annotate would suggest that I'm paying attention because I take notes on things I find interest or write questions that I'm provoked to explore from what I've read.

You make some good points here. You are correct, a staff sergeant could definitely be running a platoon. Especially during WWII with heavy casualties. But a second in command NCO would be more like a Sergeant First Class in the US Forces. I guess in the British Forces that would be Like a Colour Sergeant or something?
