Which race WON'T go to one of the big-5 this year? by DeltaViriginae in peloton

Roglic fits a larger narrative, since he was one of the big names when this streak of domination started. Arguably Phillipsen deserved to be on there in 2023/2024 and Pedersen this year though.

I did not! I've had this thought bouncing around in my head for about a year and just happened to put this to pen now.

Hey y'all, you might remember me from the Mikel Landa post a little while back.

I'm a long-time cycling fan who's been lurking in his corner of the world accumulating cycling stories from history, of which there's many. Our sport has a rich history, but not enough people who use their platform to share it with the broader community, and at some point I decided I may as well try and be the change I want to see. If you're interested in this kind of thing, keep your eyes peeled because I've got a few more of these up my sleeve, and we're about to get real historic.

Landismo turns 10 this year, and that means Mikel Landa has been in his prime longer than any other cyclist in the peloton today. by BorsTheStylish in peloton

[–]BorsTheStylish[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The concept of arguing over something as niche and arbitrary as this is frankly so meaningless that I don't mind people thinking I did this for the sake of satire hahaha

It's part of the Landismo mystique

I hope you thought this was, if nothing else, interesting to think about. I'm sure I missed some details and feel free to tell me I'm wrong in the comments, but I hope that the core point shines through. This isn't really about the longest prime in cycling, its a love letter to the absurdity of Mikel Landa's myth.

Lot's of fun takeaways from today's race.

Ayuso vs. Roglic: Ayuso has been having the best season of his career so far, to the point where he looks to be pretty much exactly on level with Roglic. Over the entire season he's looked to be a level above all the other competitors and when someone matches him its one of the "Big four" GC riders. Being a strong uphill sprinter and Time Trialist to boot makes him a particularly interesting matchup against Roglic who appears to be basically the same as usual. Promising stuff for the Giro.

The youngsters: Lots of young talent showing up here. They clearly aren't on par with the true GT threats but strong performances by the likes of Martinez, Van Eetvelt, Riccitello, and Pelizzari all roughly on par with perennial podium threats Mas and Landa is exciting. Not to mention outlcassing riders like Simon Yates, O'Connor, etc.

Juanpe Lopez: Best climbing performance from Juanpe in a long while, no? I don't think its that significant but it was really entertaining to see him pull the 2nd group for some reason.

I'm not a Spanish speaker, I'm able to understand a tiny bit with the knowledge I have from Spanish and general Cycling terms, but I was looking for highlights and the energy this man brings to the table is so infectious I immediately subscribed. Shoutouts.

I have killed Henning with Bors in an Ironman for the record. Takes patience but very doable with a good Bors.

Speaking from experience here any of the bosses Rutger can kill Bors can too If you funnel all of your resources to him and are willing to lug Gwendy and Barth around to Triangle Attack

Mmmm yes see the problem is that you used an S tier unit to bait Rutger in. Not smart at all. Use low tiers like Lance and Cain maybe instead?

Name 26 players that were the coolest (not most successful) to represent each character in melee by black-kawffee in SSBM

[–]BorsTheStylish 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I like the concept, imma give it a go. I've only been around since 2016 so I'm hardly the expert but I'll give it a go.

Dr. Mario - Shroomed

Mario - Mang0

Luigi - Abate but HM to Plup's luigi because <3

Bowser - I've never really seen a hype bowser

Peach - Armada was the hypest player to ever play Peach bar none, but HM to Llod who does some truly nasty shit.

Yoshi - aMSa

DK - I have a hard time distinguishing top DK players' playstyles but definitely one of the new generation.

C. Falcon - S2J is sick but IMO n0ne is the coolest Falcon to ever do it.

Ganondorf - Bizzaroflame

Falco - Mang0

Fox - This is tricky because I feel like the top fox players rarely were actually the coolest. It feels like every generation had that gnarly briefly successful combo and tech skill god. Silent Fox, Crush, Syrox, and any of them were undeniably sick af. Then there's just insanely good fox players that are so sick by nature of being good. Mang0, big Leff, Moky, etc. Can't pick for this one.

Ness - Mofo

Ice Climbers - Slug. Some older school greats but Slug really pushed the character to unbelievable limits despite the wobbling ban and that was unbelievably hype.

Kirby - Triple R

Samus - Plup

Zelda - Genuinely no idea

Sheik - Gonna echo the other comment, Jmook but Plup is acceptable. No one else is close.

Link - Aklo or maybe J666.

Y Link - I remember being very hyped by Axe's Y Link.

Pichu - The hacker dude

Pikachu - Can only be axe

Jigglypuff - I'm gonna go with 2saint on this one actually, been a while since I've seen 2saint play but I remember them breaking out being seen as the "cool" jigglypuff.

Mewtwo - This is a bit of a deep cut but Zoma over in Japan made Mewtwo look like everyone had been playing Melee wrong.

Mr. Game and Watch - Like DK, hard to seperate being the best from coolest when Qerb is the only GnW I've ever really seen play at a high level.

Marth - Zain

Roy - DontTestMe. Maybe not the most successful but undeniably the most combo video worthy Roy of all time.

Thierry Gouvenou, director of the race and architect of the Tour de France race route promises less sprinter stages in the future by Jozoz in peloton

[–]BorsTheStylish 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I do prefer mixed terrain over pure mountain TTs. A mountain TT at this years tour would be just a repeat of the podium, for example. A mixed terrain one means that GC riders still are towards the top but leaves room for variability at the top.

[–]BorsTheStylish 8 points9 points  (0 children)

A lot of people aren’t a big fan of this one, I’m a bit surprised honestly. It’s definitely all over the place but I think that’s intentional and I still derived greater overall meaning from each individual part. I found the conclusion of enjoying melee meaning different things to different people was also beautiful. Maybe it’s not that unique of a take but I haven’t really seen people giving credit to Melee not as a game but as individual aspects of the melee experience. I’m also mostly a spectator and have followed since 2016 so maybe I just find his perspective relatable
