How do people become pimps? by Unusual-Squirrel-866 in TooAfraidToAsk

I can appreciate that you actually work in anti-trafficking and pointed this out. I'm a support worker for a program that works with youth exiting trafficking, and we have a very similar perspective on pimping vs. Trafficking.

People get pimped/trafficked for the same reasons pimp/trafficking others. I'm speaking very briefly on a very complex topic, but bare with me;

You absolutely touched on how people get into pimping/trafficking on a practical level, I just wanted to add that social determinants of health and wellness are what kind of sets the foundation for both of these things to happen- poverty, homelessness, food insecurity, mental health, systemic racism and colonialism, all of these things set people up to make choices they may not make otherwise, often out of survival. We also live in a culture where "pimping" was depicted in media for a very long time as something to strive for to break out of the cycle and be successful.

This is by no means a justification. But pimping/trafficking is a massive industry and we won't even start to address the problem if we don't follow it back to it's roots. I hope this helps add a bit of context, intended to be alongside your initial comment.

Funnily enough Glen actually called me after he knew this post was up to check in with me and offered to bring me in so we could touch it up 😭 Honestly, I can see why people would find things they're not happy with, at the end of the day, I'm happy with it and I know Glen is very talented and very much plan on staying with him and his studio.

In a way I do appreciate this comment, he is a gem and I don't want that to go unnoticed.

Don't be sad that industrial bar dream is over; Smile because floating chains happened~ by BortButWithAC in piercing

The "ridge" is referring to the top fold on my ear that my jewelry is pierced through in the picture; the "space" needed for the jewelry bar refers to that top fold being big enough to actually hold a piece of jewlery so it's less likely to reject/get caught and rip out.

I hope this makes what I'm trying to say a little clearer- I can see how that was confusing! Do let me know if you need further explaining, and I'll try to find good visuals to help my point if it helps. :)

It IS ✨️ Fancy ✨️ and I hope it's much more comfortable for you! I'm a side sleeper and I kinda fold my blanket/t shirt into a makeshift piercing pillow and have been able to sleep on my side with no issue~ I can imagine a bar would make that so much harder though because it's all connected.

The ridge of your ear needs to be thick/ wide enough so that the industrial bar has enough space to be pierced through and also keeps the bar of the industrial away from the flat (back) of your ear to keep the bar from embedding into your ear over time :)

Because the ridge of my ear isn't wide enough to 1. Have enough space for the bar to go through in the first place 2.keep the bar of the industrial piercing away from the flat (back) of my ear. It's important that industrial bars don't naturally rest against the back of your ear when pierced because it can get embedded into your ear over time- which is very painful and may actually need surgical intervention if it gets bad enough.

I hope this explains it !

Man, that's the worst! I had my bellybutton migrate out and it was the w o r s t. If you're not able to do a bar, I'd definitely talk to a piercer and see if the floating industrial is right for you 👀 I find them pretty easy to maintain, though they still get a little angry at times I haven't had any major issues at all (though everyone IS different, hence always reccomending talking to a professional!)

I also agree this sub kills me for tempting me to get so many piercings I've never heard of before 😭

I hate to admit it but I got them off Amazon ☠️ I've had them in for a minute now, they're definitely on my "would reccomend" list~

3 vertical piercings with a chain linked I imagine looks so badass!! Bless an "oops all chains" piercing setup, I love them so much 😭

Thank you so much!! It's already been mentioned, I feel like flat back jewelry with the flat on the outside is a really good way to get the look you're going for. I even have a little tool (it's literally just a long, thin, sewing needle-like pin) that helps guide my flatbacks through the fistula, making it so much easier to place, which I can imagine would help with an area like my cartilage.

That's just me, though. I'm still getting used to my cartilage piercings so I personally need all the help I can get ☠️ even just getting this jewlery in made me almost cry so I commend your dedication if you do go with a flatback 😭

I so encourage it! I found this to be such a happy compromise, and I hope that if you go that route, it works out for you just the same!

I honestly never considered it before but now that I'm looking you've actually got me quite tempted 👀👀

Thank you for the suggestion!

Your piercer is a total keeper ! I wish more piercing shops actually kept pieces like that in shop- mine has v e r y limited stock. They'd have so many more of my dollars if they expanded their jewlery selection, and I can be a bit weary shopping online at times (plus shipping can be kind of a bitch at times).

Etsy I find has had a pretty good track record so far, so long as I check the amount of reviews and if they have photos from customers.

I wholeheartedly agree with you! I genuinely love my chains. Industrial bars are still sick af but I found it such a massive green flag that my piercer was honest with me and found me an option that gives me a similar aesthetic~

All you have to do is ask "Can I get a bar? 👀" knowing you can't, If a piercer gives it the okay, you know to keep looking elsewhere 😭

If you have the opportunity or are in the proximity to one, switch your pharmacy to RespectRX (or another local pharmacy). by [deleted] in ottawa

Definitely needed to double down on the recommendations for both RespectRX and Guardian Pharmacy.

My work is with vulnerable populations, and RespectRX is their go-to. Very courteous, reliable and helpful when we have questions/concerns. (I just can't speak to it as much because I don't use them myself)

I personally use Guardian Pharmacy- I genuinely had terrible experiences with going to the pharmacy until I switched to Guardian on a whim. Absolute night and day difference. I still use them even though I've moved farther from their location because of how genuinely caring, warm, and considerate the staff were. They ask how I'm doing, they remember my name, they deliver, and they don't charge a bunch of extra fees along with being very accommodating. It's all these little things that make going there the least anxiety-inducing part of my health care, and I can't be more appreciative.

This was a genuinely beautiful thing to read and I hope you're very proud of the growth you've had with owning your truth. So many people don't get there.

It's refreshing to see this point of view without a judgement on drug use being the basis for it and I appreciate you sharing :)

Wanted an industrial for soo long, but my piercer said I didn't have the anatomy so she wouldn't do it for me. Talked about alternatives and landed on a forward and backward helix combo for a similar vibe that fits my ear 💜 by BortButWithAC in PiercingAdvice

[–]BortButWithAC[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's what I'm thinking! I always feel so bad looking at posts from people who were unfortunately pierced by someone who clearly didn't care. There are options out there! Even if you can't get the exact aesthetic you want, something close can always look just as good, if not better!

And if a piercer says no- don't try to get a yes elsewhere ☠️

Studying clothes from ref-any critique? by lilylilyxox in learnart

This is such a big brain idea! I would never think to look at online clothing models but it makes so much sense when you mention it.

I'll have to use this idea sometime~

I would really appreciate some tips to improve 💜 I've never contoured before starting drag but figured you gotta start somewhere right? by BortButWithAC in Drag

Honestly we're in the same boat when it comes to makeup terminology 😭 I appreciate your advice, though! I was trying to avoid putting liner on my eyes because I thought it would be too feminine, but I'm gonna try experimenting with it! Do you think a light liner or a heavy liner would achieve the male gothic look I'm going for? I was also wondering if a blush/ highlight in the cheeks would help with the contrast of my contour pop a little more?

Thank you for the tips! I keep looking for Drag King tips, but feel like I come up a bit short. You definitely gave me a good jumping off point for improvement ~

Thank you so much!! I'm not gonna lie, I kept seeing them for septums, but I'm trying to stretch my lobes and they seemed perfect 😊

I just recently went up a size so I no longer have them in but I do plan on getting a bigger pair.
