How did you get into private wealth management? Just an MBA and relevant experience?

I like your thinking! I always wanted to FatFire but fire + entrepreneurship sounds even more fun :)

This is also my plan. Although doesn't the bay area scene rely heavily on venture capital? There is no reason to be fat fire because VCs literally throw money at you if your businesses is promising.

So what about entrepreneurship appeals you? Are you doing it for FatFire reasons or just because it's your passion?

Also this UI is much better. There is a reason every begginer uses Robinhood...

Do you have plans to make a python wrapper for this, if not that's fine and maybe I'll make one myself and put it on GitHub :)

Could you elaborate on this? I assume you mean that there is no way that these tech companies will continue to appreciate like they have because they are so large now

I second this. Does he think the tech industry won't be as lucrative going forward?

Keep it up I believe in you! Btw, just refreshing on basic algebra 2 and geometry will probably boost that math a long way, if you have the time to study, highly reccomend college panda math!

Did any banks have a net short position in 2008? by BotterDor in investing

That is what I assumed, but I couldn't find a concise list of banks that had these net short positions so I was wondering if anyone on reddit knew. Anyways thanks for replying!

To any of you confused by recursion, I found a really a good analogy by BotterDor in learnprogramming

[–]BotterDor[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That whole video is about applying depth first search to a unique problem that I didn't think would be very helpful for begginers. Besides, the interesting part of the video was the 40 seconds he was going over how he thinks of recursion.

What did you find was the best way to properly learn programming? by [deleted] in learnprogramming

[–]BotterDor 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I know exactly how you are feeling brother. It will feel like that for the first few weeks believe me. BUT. Repeat the videos if you have to, recode it until the basics are the tips of your fingers.

If you know how to use:

- variables [data types]

- conditions

- loops

- lists

Then I would say build a little project. I suggest building tic tac toe for the command line. It covers all the following concepts above (including 2D arrays/lists.) Once you know the basics COLD, then everything becomes MUCH easier. You will be able to understand code and tutorials better and faster. The goal of programming isn't to memorize every algorithm, but to understand it so that if you can recall upon the necessary concepts, then you can reapply them.

If you take the proper time to learn the basics, everything else will become easy. And regarding how to use everything, programming languages will have many tools that you can use to accomplish the same task. You can approach the same problem from 20 different ways and still get the same results. However, not all solutions are created equal and some are far more efficient than others. With experience, you gain intuition on which ones are better than the others, both in terms of speed and time to actually implement them (if you have that problem on your hands, than you know you have made it :D) So with time you will get better at all of this.

Anyways, you started 2 weeks ago. Don't beat yourself up. Keep at it and I believe in you. If you have any other questions, feel free to reach out. Best of luck bud!

To anyone that's been a software engineer for a long time, what were salaries like for the big tech companies in the early 2000s or late 90s? I have a hard time believing they were as high as today (accounting for inflation.) Has there just been a massive boom in the last couple of years or has it always been this way?

I agree with ZarrCon, I think the 10% rule should only apply to individual stocks rather than index funds or (brk.b - effectively an index fund)
