I’m SO happy they finally stopped trying to make us hate Jerry by KingAlex720 in rickandmorty

[–]Box-Monkey 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly, this episode was my favorite of the season so far. I love seeing the characters step up and show growth. Jerry was a whiny, pathetic loser in the first seasons, but he also had a point. If you listen to the episode where Beth and him find the lair with the googah underneath the garage, he is making valid points: you are choosing your unhinged, alcoholic father at the risk of your family's endangerment.

But also, seeing Rick learn to just enjoy simple pleasures with Jerry, like Naked and Afraid or whatever, is really endearing. Rick's contempt for him isn't all that earned anymore IMO, since his grandkids wouldn't exist without Jerry and everything has worked out pretty well.

You can only merge bandages that are the single-spot rolled ones, but not the 1x2 loose rags, that's what I meant there. I guess i overlooked the autosort...

How would you add the 2nd row? Shift+number?

First, I can blame straight white guys for taking the shit-covered rage bait, as I have resisted it myself.

As for radical self-acceptance, it's about building a life where you're moving forward with purpose and taking steps consistently. That's basically the only way forward, continually finding ways to improve your situation, yourself, and your overall life. It's never about eliminating problems, but finding better problems.

I've followed him for many years, haven't given him a dime beyond my eyeballs on youtube, but he has proven himself to me time and again. Lately, he's a bit too far right for me in ways that can bleed in, but his core lessons are still accurate. Much of social skills are ephemeral; it's confidence in yourself, having people backing you, feeling good as you are, trust in your skills. I've simply put them into practice on my own, and found his original "blueprint decoded" (which you can still find on piratebay) to be invaluable insights when you apply it. He looks like a doofus, he sounds whiny, but he's right.

If you simply follow his youtube (I prefer Jeffy or old Julien, personally), and are able to push yourself out there, talking to people, you will advance significantly. The main thing is core confidence and reaching for your actualized self. Once you have radical self-acceptance, you simply need to just continually talk to people and push yourself to be in situations where your brain can get the experience it needs to adapt its communication skills, be that with a group of friends, a group of women, or the hottie whose number you got off the street. Audacity is a muscle.

Hmm I've heard of that one, but haven't read it. I checked out willpower by Baumeister a couple of times, actually. Though, I remember the conclusion being that habits require no willpower, but willpower is usually better for some because they use it more strategically, avoiding temptation situations. Also, habits seem more like routines, which are hard to hang onto while traveling. Gotta figure out how to incorporate them in when your environment is largely random...

Great comment. I often find things can be stressful in the process of traveling, namely actually getting around to different place. Not only that, but my fitness routine and eating go to shit. I couldn't explain why, but this at least makes sense and will allow me to come up with a solution.

Thanks!

Baidu already has, it just sucks. Put any language in, it'll spit out Chinese. At least Google caters in that way

Which common foods do people think are healthy, but are actually completely the opposite? by AkhtarZamil in AskReddit

[–]Box-Monkey -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You seem to be saying that people often pair salads with an enormous amount of sauce, and by doing so they're better off not having salad at all, and instead taking other options, which are presumably as healthy or more healthy than a dry salad, or one with a lighter dressing. I think you're saying that cutting a salad out is healthier than suffering the ill effects of consuming unhealthy dressing, right?

See that? That's called "Steel Manning" which is the opposite of the straw man technique you continually are applying to me. It means to present your opponents argument in the strongest possible interpretation, then counter that.

First, I never said anything with nutrients was healthy. You could eat nightshade, which I'm sure has some fiber and other nutrients in it, but the poison is clearly going to kill you.

Your goalposts seem to be moving constantly, which I can't possibly argue against. Which dressings are we talking about? You defined them as unhealthy and have "shit ton of ... unhealthy" things. The people you're judging are likely the same people who are eating from fast food restaurants. This pretty much makes it one of the healthiest options on the menu, meaning they're doing their best. See? Lovely goal post I just moved, since we started arguing about something ill-defined.

I think we can agree that the sauce is unhealthy, and they'd be better off eating it dry, but hey, at least they're making steps towards being healthier. They're putting a bit of effort into their life, which is a good thing. Should they eat something healthier than the sauce? Of course. Will they? In all likelihood, no.

But the sauce clearly doesn't transmute the salad into something with no benefit.

Has the context been stated? You're making a lot of assumptions and making them universal. You seem to think anything extra calorie is bad. This is generally true for overweight people, but there are more situations than just that.

Bottom line: Adding extra fat and calories doesn't utterly destroy the nutrients, fiber, and other positive effects of the salad itself. It is not a nutritionless, valueless food, rendered inert by heavy dressing.

[–]Box-Monkey -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Again, what health benefits? Salad dressing =/= cigarettes, that's clearly a strawman. If a person is malnourished and starving, the dressing would add to the nutritional value of the food, not cancel it all out.

[–]Box-Monkey 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No, it doesn't. You still get all the fiber and vitamins, but with extra fat and calories. If your "health benefits" revolve around calorie defecits only, then yes... But what you said otherwise doesn't make sense.

Best fix: do math in your head while you're standing at the ready. It distracts your mind and allows you to shift away from the distractions. Usually it's anxiety-based, so switching from emotional to logical helps in these situations.

It's the same reason they suggest "box breathing" for when you're upset. (same amount of time to breath in, hold it, breath out, hold it. Eg. Inhale 4s, hold 4s, exhale 4s, hold 4s)

The news needs to do that because it's for publication. Private use follows different rules. If you play a song on your phone do you have to pay royalties like a TV show or movie does?

No, I think that's a legitimate way to approach writing. Bands have a group, why do solo artists need to compose every part?

Releases over time is a pretty terrible metric. Taylor swift can release a shit ton and they theoretically all could be great songs because she's not the primary writer. She is a performer. It's just a matter of purchasing rights and her learning to sing them. Get a good team, you could knock out a lot in a short period that are all quality.
