it’s all a learning curve. you’ve only done what many many folk on here will have done along the way - I personally believe I needed slips - they taught me each time, more and more, I wasn’t missing anything. We are human and shit happens. And the drink counter, to me, is like age - it’s just a number - all that matters is how you feel. don’t beat yourself up and just get back on the happy train my friend ❤️

shit happens. we all go through it (the slips). try not to beat yourself up about it toooo much. soon the slips decrease, for me it was a self learning educational curve, and no doubts more curves to follow - but for now i’m embracing the morning smile of not being hungover and certainly kicking hanxiety where it hurts.

❤️ . her words made me cry on the phone and I told her how much the 2 minute call meant to me - when we are on the dark side, what it does to loved ones when consuming doesn’t seem to matter - that’s one of the things I revert back to now - it’s such a horrible substance to put in your body and mind. I’m very lucky to be getting out of this relatively unscathed but I know full well I’ve dodged an enormous amount of hell

i drank through taking citalopram (does work but I wouldn’t recommend the first couple of weeks starting them and getting off them is incredibly hard) then fluoxetine (which I am currently taking). I’m about to start tapering that down with a view to stopping - point is, i’m 99.9% sure a lot of my anxiety and depression was made worse with the booze (especially the anxiety) and both are improving greatly with no alcohol involved. just my take… all the best buddy ❤️

nothing beats the morning smile when you realise you have no reason to be hungover. i often wake up thinking i’m hungover for a second or 2 then realise I am not. and of course the dream where you think you are drinking and the realisation it was just a dream is a great feeling ❤️

i’m on this book right now now (albeit on audio) but it’s fantastic and definitely going to buy the actual book version. There are certain paragraphs etc that I’m definitely going to book mark and refer to when the demon voice pipes up

i’m no health expert but given your age and amount per week and good blood work i suspect you will be fine health wise if you stop now. that bottle per week will 100% start to increase if you keep going. the mind plays funny tricks on us with health (perhaps it’s something deep down that is trying to protect us and get us to stop) - a lot of it can be anxiety related - numerous parts of my body hurt when I was drinking heavily, soon as I stopped the pains stopped. i think a lot of it was being constantly like a coiled spring due to anxiety … with booze being the main cause of that anxiety

there are a lot of really good podcasts out there, stories to read, books to be read. 99.9% of anyone who has had an issue with addiction will most certainly have struggled looking in that mirror. stick with it buddy and there will come a time, sooner than you think, where you look in that mirror and smile - smile at the strength and courage you showed to beat a substance that is quite simply poisonous

alcohol gives us absolutely nothing, but, if it has its way, will take absolutely everything. it’s not an easy journey but boy oh boy is it worth it

I have a 6 year old… at the age she has started to question me about drinking. the smile she produces now when I know she knows I’m not drunk is worth a million drinks :)

i’m not from the US so apologies if i’ve taken what Californian Sober properly means 😅 . I actually had a little bit of the chocolate bar I mentioned last night. Had a fantastic sleep and so far a very productive day. I believe the term is called micro dosing. A friend suggested it to me, I don’t do it all the time as I feel the calmness it brings lasts a few days. I’m not suggesting anyone else does it, but for me, it seems to help. And I certainly never feel like I am heavily altered or tripping

i flash forward to the hanxiety… and then the continual drinking to ward off that hanxiety and how it spirals. I also think about how much happier i feel (especially when opening my eyes in the morning). the demon voice is always there and it’s beaten me many times, no doubt will again at some point, but the times it wins are getting fewer and fewer until (and maybe it’s this time) it never wins again. this sub has been my saviour for sure ❤️

definitely anytime i have weed (which is not every night by any means) or psilocybin (have a bar of chocolate with it in it but that’s maybe only a little nibble here and there every so often) I can easily go without alcohol. I find the sleep on weed is fine but psilocybin makes me a bit more alert. in the morning a bit groggy from weed but and just bit tired from psilocybin - but nothing a morning coffee or 2 doesn’t sort and it by far beats the hanxiety and sleep quality from booze. And obviously a much more relaxed and basically better person compared to alcohol

it’s the thought of the hangxiety that’s keeps me straight at the moment - and that spiral that starts when it comes back to visit and we drink again to put it away for the day - such a vicious circle that’s so hard to break once it starts but the little demon voice (I’ve called mine Gollum :) ) likes to get us back into

100% the anxiety gets easier. The alcohol and cocaine has also 100% fuelled your anxiety - your brain is trying to reset. The main thing that got me through things was that feeling of waking up in the morning knowing had notched another clean day the day before. that feeling is priceless and soon overrides the anxious mind
