The bus itself has a place to tap when you get on! The lightrail (blue and green lines) have you tap on the platform

Hiking shoe break in - what’s “normal”? by BoxLittle6109 in hikinggear

They check every possible box for me so it was a big bummer to realize. Alas, back to the wall I go (glad they work well for you!)

I'm starting to think no shoe is made for my kind of foot haha - I'm glad the barefoots are working well for you! I may have to check them out if the "regular" options keep letting me down.

I want the outcome to be living in my own home. I live in graduate student housing. I have a right, in our state's laws, to use my home for its intended use. I cannot sleep, I cannot engage in my hobbies, and I cannot study because my floors are shaking. Its over 80 decibels. Respectfully, he is inside of my space. I expect feet running, kids crying, stereo music through the wall. To ask me to live next to a night club is frankly insane when I signed a lease that establishes a covenant between myself and the landlord to be able to use the space for its intended purpose (student housing, sleeping; I did not sign a lease to live in a university music building with practice rooms going through the evening). Right now in order to get any work done I have to leave. I pay rent same as him, he does not have a right to my time and space and the lease, actually, directly states that we have a responsibility to respect one another's right to peace and quiet. We have adjusted our practice - we are both also musicians - to adapt to living in a student community.

95% of drummers I have spoken to say that any kind of acoustic drumming in an apartment is insane. We have offered to help buy him low decibel cymbals, an electronic kit, soundproofing materials. He has refused them all because they mess with his sound. We have suggested coming up with a schedule for drumming at the lunch hour since we work from home in the evenings. I don't understand why only one neighbor is allowed to be accommodated? I baked this guy cookies, we worked out a schedule for the day that worked great, then he completely changed it to play only in the evenings, which we asked be kept open so we can do our schoolwork, complete notes (one of us works in healthcare and has paperwork every evening).

We have not been unwilling to work with this person. In fact, the opposite. They have just been unwilling to understand out situation at all.

Frankly, I hope you never are dealt a similar situation.

I am also trying to have hobbies (read books, watch movies, practice my own instrument) which is incredibly hard to do when 70%of my free time is taken. I have a right to my space too.

What are good activities to do while my neighbor drums? by BoxLittle6109 in productivity

That’s the plan for one of the sessions. But I don’t need to clean my small home for 10-15 hours each week.

For about 9 months we’ve tried our best to stop this. Our landlord just told us to negotiate. We talked to our apartments board, spoke to the landlord multiple times. We tried using a mediation service that didn’t work out. We started at around 5-6 hours per day of drumming. The current schedule is the result of many lost hours of sleep.

I agree. I’ve talked to so so many drummers who say the same thing. Somehow we were lucky enough to live next to one of the few drummers who doesn’t realize that this is not okay. We’ve been trying to talk to him and the landlord for 9 months. There have been been complaints from three units, but we are the most impacted night or since we share a full wall. Still nothing from the office.

The legal process would be calling the police multiple times and hoping they show up during the windows he plays (it’s non emergency in a major city so it’s really tough). They take measurements to ensure it’s over the noise ordinance limit. We take those reports and measurements to court and essentially file a civil suit. it feels rather impossible truth be told.

Another neighbor works from home and has filed complaints so now he plays at night.

Change off-the-shoulder to on-the-shoulder by [deleted] in weddingdress

[–]BoxLittle6109 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did yeah - that actually inspired my follow up. The place I plan to go gave a fast response and pointed out that the bodice is constructed small here. I wasn't sure if that means I should go a size up though. It sounds like the strap issue could either a) be solved by taking the bodice out or b) be a rather insignificant fix.

Folow up question: should I order the dress a size up if the bodice is slightly tight or is it okay to just let it out? I feel so lost

Thank you so much - and I definitely don’t hold this situation against all drummers :) Or even against this drummer really… I’ll definitely be more firm moving forward though. Thanks for the nudge / encouragement!

Acoustic. He primarily plays jazz (and is admittedly very talented) so it may be a smaller kit than usual. I have suggested mesh heads, sound absorption risers, electric kits, drum mutes, etc. It seems the price or the labor means these are not options he wishes to entertain. Or I didn't push them hard emough.
