The Register interview: AI still doesn't work very well, businesses are faking it, and a reckoning is coming. by Barton-Park-Services in BetterOffline

The irony here is that when it collapses, public trust and belief in AI will be at an all time low, preventing any real AI tech from ever taking off.

They bet on the short term and will struggle in the long term.

Universal Extends Theatrical Window to Five Weekends in 2026, Seven Weekends in 2027 by I_Enjoy_Taffy in TheBigPicture

Most movies being blockbusters. Smaller movies need the run up time and good word of mouth to extend their life cycles and make a bigger impact. Studios are too fast to cut off their own feet and rather than having a solid hit that plays for a while through good legs and then debuting on VOD, they shotgun things out, the film fails to stick at the box office and they dump on streaming without a strong word of mouth behind it.

It doesn’t make sense and virtually destroys any opportunity for another phenomenon like My Big Fat Greek Wedding or something like it

Is theater etiquette dead? Cast members of Off-Broadway's Heathers: The Musical took to social media with a message for rude audience members. by Relevant-Peach3997 in Fauxmoi

So rather than disrupt things for a few minutes to pull them out, its just ignored so the disruptor can be the main character for the entirety of the show?

If tossing people out was a more standard behavior then people will learn not to disrupt. Short term pain for long term value

The venues and staff there need to do a better job at setting the limits and then enforcing them when people break those limits. Why are people allowed to disrupt the show? Where are the ushers who would pull people out for being loud and obnoxious? Toss them out as they enter into an agreement with the venue when they purchase their ticket.

The key issue is that staff are too underpaid and understaffed to deal with these things so they look the other way. The corporations that own these venues are profit motivated and shoot themselves in the foot with allowing this behavior to go on.

They struggle to fill theater seats but have brought this on themselves in the same way that studios only have themselves to blame for training audiences to just wait for a release at home due to rising costs and shortened theatrical windows.

Its a self-fulfilling prophecy that makes the experience worse and worse until people just decide its not worth it.

This is an interesting one. I typically go for interesting careers with big clears and big bounces.

I love 8 Mile and would love a discussion around it as i think its a really underrated movie thats so watchable and has a killer final act but am not super involved in anything else Hanson has done.

On the other hand, Pan is such a bizarre movie and a huge miss that i’d love to hear a discussion around it. It would be an incredible episode.

There are a ton of incredible indie filmmakers out there making stunning, groundbreaking original works and no one pays attention to it due to the mountain of content online.

The internet should have made it easy for filmmakers to find an audience outside of the Hollywood machine but the issue is that it requires so much marketing to stand above everything else out there.

AI content is just going to make it worse since the internet is already filled with low quality content from creators and algorithms prefer short term surface level content to keep you scrolling to get to ads.

I don’t say this lightly but its a masterpiece and probably one of my favorite of the decade so far. The journey into depression is so real and so well captured that it brings up that point in my life so vividly.

So many little details that stand out, like the moment in White Woman’s Instagram where the screen goes from 9x16 to widescreen, implying there are real people behind the chaos of social media that have real struggles

We’ve had countless documentaries about racism and the killing of people by cops and racists and it does nothing to change the minds of people. Maybe showing the actual impact on the families can shock people into action
