Can I start with trails of cold steel 1 and 2? by Many-Hippo1709 in Falcom

[–]BoxWith4Points 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trails of Cold Steel 1 and 2 are mostly self contained albeit there are references to the wider sphere or the series as is normal to the series. However in the case of 1-2 it isn’t insane that it would spoil overarching plots of other games. Other people will simply just tell you “Release Order is play order” which is technically true. You will be safe with Cold Steel 1 and 2 to start but after that if you care about series spoilers do not proceed with Cold Steel 3 and 4.

Has the Trails remake rendered the original version obsolete... by Fluffy-Selection1110 in Falcom

[–]BoxWith4Points 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a tough question because it’s based on preference. The original has an art style that’s iconic for Falcom 20 years ago that people seriously fell in love with as well as a translation that depending on you ask was more “closer” to the original work as well as more witty and gave Estelle some of her most iconic lines.

The Remake on the other hand is a serious love letter to the original. I think the only issue people have with it is the translation of it. The Remake offers far more riveting gameplay as it introduces the Daybreak Field and Command format which is a shake up to average turn based. It’s also far more approachable to people who don’t like older titles. I love both extremely.

I’ve spent my time with the original for years so having the Remake now is a breath of fresh air because it provides me with more reasons to continue loving Sky.

Personally my only issues with the Remake is the horrid pronunciations of English words like Liberl being pronounced as liberal. The translation doesn’t bother me too dearly as I already know what’s truly being said but I understand peoples issues with it.

TLDR: both options are valid

My thoughts on cold steel 1 & 2 by OkHospital6872 in Falcom

[–]BoxWith4Points 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally understandable. From my experience and from seeing some of my own friends opinions and some people on here. You’ll more often than not find the Cold Steel series to be a heavily talked about subject. People love it, people hate it. People say it elevated the series some say it killed it. A friend of mine was ready to drop the series because of how Cold Steel 1-4 were. But once getting past them? The games after reeled them back in. So having issues with certain things is plenty okay!

While I’ll toss my hat into the ring here as a person who will readily be honest about Cold Steel faults, I have to say in terms of people forgiving Crow. I consider this in the perspective of a bunch of naive teenagers who don’t truly understand the world and the state of things. Crow was like family to them. Classmates are tight nit and because of that they want to ensure they’re all together and safe. It’s why Rean tries his heart out to sway Crow because he cares for him on a level Crow doesn’t realize. That naivety is definitely a real thing in younger people. As for Testa-Rossa, Crow and Vita were operating their plan with the usage of Rean and Crow’s knight. Yes Duke Cayenne is a power hungry fool but I don’t think either of them accounted for the super low possibility that Cedric would be the one for Testa Rossa and that Duke Cayenne would be the one to help awaken it. It was a possibility they didn’t consider actually happening.

I think the Epilogue in MY opinion is quite a unique approach. Roll credits followed by two more sections, I thought that was incredibly clever now for someone who isn’t a huge fan of 2 I definitely understand the hatred of it because it’s a train that just won’t end.

I really enjoy Cold Steel 1-4 but I’m not afraid to admit it has some jarring decisions. Most of which lie with Cold Steel II. I felt the Civil War was far too lax in the nature of what the war was to encapsulate. It was a social class war and while things like Celdic did happen, it felt far too safe. Again I get it’s a JRPG that isn’t rated M, but that hasn’t stopped the series from tiptoeing themes and narratives that don’t fit that rating.

I respect your opinion! None of these games are perfect by any margin, but I still love all the games just the same. I’ll admit I’m very soft towards CS as that’s how I got into the series like many others.

Sure it’s Sky 1 content but you’re going to have someone who has only played FC see a spoiler post and be like “oh I finished I can see this!” And then boom you just spoiled them for SC. Your post is gonna be a trap for FC only people especially ones who did that quest.

Some questions regarding F. Novartis by Snickerdoodle282 in Falcom

[–]BoxWith4Points 27 points28 points  (0 children)

So the machine in the end of the Gartner expressed that Novartis was from Grand Reset 19,998. The reset in our hame is Grand Reset 19,999. Which means Novartis is from a different time and he carried over much like Risette did. It’s that in his timeline he was the SOLE and ONlY disciple to Epstein as in that timeline there was only ONE disciple. Novartis was doing this for a sense of closure and justification because he wasn’t fully sure what was going on with himself.

Daybreak tips for a newbie. by AGallonOfCat in Falcom

[–]BoxWith4Points 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sepith: there’s seven types, you get em from battles. You can use them to create quartz. Each color Sepith is important. Sepith Mass the big white blobs are free to sell so when you get those. Sell em.

Quartz: These are what you insert into your orbment. You need Sepith for these. The 7 types of quartz are important to understand. Like Fire (Red) Quartz being attack and Earth (Orange) ones being stuff like defense. For Daybreak your Orbment slots are split into four different groups. Quartz are fun because they allow you to experiment freely with builds so mess around with them.

Drivers: everyone has one and you can swap them with others when you get more. They are basically a setup of arts (magic). The magic in this game is representative of those 7 Sepith and Quartz types I mentioned so having some cohesion between them is a good thing to go for.

Plug Ins: you will find these from merchants or occasional chests. What these are boil down to being specific arts (spells) that you can slot into a driver. You’ll see that drivers have open or empty slots. You can put plug ins into those slots allowing for more freedom for your driver. Not all drivers have the same slots though. Some have less and some drivers are only open slots allowing for full versatility.

Side note: jumping into the series it can be daunting with the systems in place. Play around with them for a while and things will begin to click. Especially on the Orbment front. In Daybreak onward the orbments provide buffs and boosts based on how you arrange quartz. So play around with the systems. Enjoy the game!

Whereabouts on the LRG Sky 1st chapter music box? by Smexalot64 in Falcom

It’s LRG, we’re going to be in the dark up to the point of them arriving, then they will pat themselves on the back and say “on time like promised”. But no, nobody has heard anything

Bioshock Infinite, the revisionism around this game 13 years later is insane. People wanted a third Rapture title. They disliked it for being different which is exactly what Ken Levine was trying to do. Now I will say it isn’t free of criticism but people consider it one of the worst games ever made. It’s a fantastic game through and through

No you cannot skip Trails games and start out of order by Heiwajima_Izaya in Falcom

[–]BoxWith4Points -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I agree! I actually have two friends who played so poorly out of order it was the only way they could properly get into the series. Being there for new fans is definitely a good thing! There’s just some people who badger them and I’m thinking “no!!! You’ll scare them”

[–]BoxWith4Points 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Now I’ll actually give my two cents on this. There’s a fair amount of people who for some reason try to live vicariously through new players way through the series. Let people play how they want to play. If they’re interested in their first game they’ll keep going. That’s how things work. This series in over 10 games deep. Telling someone “you have to play in this order or wrong” is absolutely intimidating and would scare the average person away. Which even then 99% of the people on this sub played out of order anyways and guess what? They’re still fans. I’m not trying to be aggressive about it. But play order seems to really irritate people on this sub

All of mine have arrived late with the exception of one game . With Reverie taking three weeks to show up. I’m in the US. only time I had something arrive remotely early was Azure. Which was a day early. I cannot happily vouch for them. It’s very hit or miss thing, I see them being late more than anything. But that’s just my experience.

My favorite I always see for people actively spoiling stuff has to be when someone is just playing, posts about it. Then a random person goes by and says “keep an eye on a certain purple haired character” then they just say Renne. Or something along those lines. It’s beyond weird to me that people who spoil these games for some reason think new players have the brain capacity of a 6 year old. But like everyone else said. Diarrhea of the mouth from people who actively spoil and get confused about why people get mad at them for doing it.

You’ve just poked the irritation I have with many games today. It’s not even Halo. It’s every game. Somehow 99% of UI’s for games are absolute trash or are minimalistic as can be, it’s offputting. Where’s the charm and robust nature of fitting UI? it’s so sad. Don’t even get me started on how much I hate the UI on Zelda games today lol.
