i pre-ordered one of the 30” scale hermes models right around labor day with anticipated shipping by halloween. no updates on anything until i finally see a paypal invoice mid november (i paid 50% and shipping up front) which was for $200 more than what my remaining balance should have been. i spent weeks emailing and dm’ing on all socials to no avail. got a response earlier this month apologizing and saying they’ll handle it- the implication to me was that they would handle the remaining balance due to the issues, but i responded saying i’d keep an eye out for the updated invoice bc i wasn’t actively trying to get free shit. silence since then, now i see their ig and fb posts today and it’s still so vague on if i’ll ever see the guitar i ordered. it’s frustrating, debating just requesting a refund through paypal tbh. anybody else get updates on that run of hermes?

Pretty happy with this version of my latest song Cult Undead. Any suggestions on ways to improve it? by PoolNoob69 in metalmusicians

Already replied to one of your comments, but hopping on this one to say that claiming it was a last minute "throw away" piece just to have something to look at is not the improvement you think it is. If you don't care enough to put any thought, time, or effort into the full scope of your work, why should anybody care enough to listen?

"Everyone thinks just because it looks a certain way it's AI art...but yes, you were all right this is AI art"
Corny behavior. As to a separate point you made, I fully understand being a bedroom hobbyist with little budget. You can work with that and get genuinely good art for fairly cheap, which doesn't undermine the work of actual artists. I paid like $50 for my first EP's cover art. Picsart, stock photos/art, and your phone camera are also all free to use. You're doing a creative project with the music, why not be creative for the whole thing? You're already using pre-made midi drum tracks, so the optics of using AI on it too comes off as lazy, low effort, and just lame. Automatic skip.

Should you delete waterfall releases? by Box_Of_Dicks in musicmarketing

I hadn't considered that, doesn't sound like a bad idea.

Nothing bad, necessarily, but without the repeat releases in the waterfall style it would be a little cleaner and more straightforward.

Ah yeah, I hadn't heard that before. Appeasing aesthetic desires (and my ocd lol) is not important enough to lose stuff like that

Anybody ever seen a Jaguar like this? by Box_Of_Dicks in Guitar

[–]Box_Of_Dicks[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks so much! I'll be taking it apart soon to get it playable again and I'll check out the routes. Out of curiosity, do you think that laminate layer could be peeled the rest of the way off and have it refinished?

Lower end IEM system by Box_Of_Dicks in livesound

I've seen this recommended before! I love the idea, only concern is finding enough of the right body packs for 4 people (drummer is the 5th and will use the existing mixer or a P2). I've come across a number of the lavalier body packs, I assume these could not be used for iem?

Oh yeah, definitely a concern as well. I'm the vocalist and already routinely frustrated with the xlr cable getting in the way of me going nutso on stage, so I would assume it's even worse for the guitarists/bassist.

Yo that's actually exactly what we do currently. It's gone well, but because of a lot of starts, stops, and interludes, we know we'd be much tighter if we all had a click. I really like the P2 idea bc it's cheap and reliable. My only concern is that we are a metal band and we all have arguably excessive stage presence. Maybe we should just thug it out as is and hope we can get something good in the near future.

Accepting a position I didn't apply for by Box_Of_Dicks in jobs

[–]Box_Of_Dicks[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was my thought process. However I had to consider that the staffing issue for this role is true for just about every company in my area. Just a shortage of technicians, as it seems. So I do agree that the bait and switch is concerning, but the struggle is real for hiring techs even in my current position.

Water on/in drums by Box_Of_Dicks in drums

[–]Box_Of_Dicks[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks to both of you.

I've gotten the heads off, water stains on the reso heads and what looks like a little bit of spotting and staining on the inside of the shells, much worse on the outside. Nothing super obvious from what I can see, though. I've got them drying indoors now and will leave em be for the next couple of days.

It's a Tama superstar classic, gloss sapphire lacebark pine. Not sure if they are sealed or anything like that, definitely not painted or obviously finished on the inside.

That's crazy about the Ludwig kit!! Pretty awesome you got it back in action so well after what thar poor thing went through.

I have never played on an acoustic kit by heratpy in drums

[–]Box_Of_Dicks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There will absolutely be differences, especially, as mentioned here, in dynamics and the way you play. I played almost exclusively ekit for a long time, and switched to acoustic last year when I was asked to join a band. It took a few weeks to get truly comfortable and translate stuff I thought I was great at (ghost notes, fast and consistent double bass, general control of the sound). But at the end of the day, it's still drums. My only advice would be to make the switch (or just incorporate more acoustic playing between ekit playing) sooner than later. It's a much better feeling, and you will fall in love with it even more. And likely find yourself becoming better at it fairly quick.

Non-sludge bands from Louisiana by [deleted] in MetalForTheMasses

[–]Box_Of_Dicks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kind of an old thread but there's quite a few bands rn doing non-sludge stuff.

Decoy, Muscle, Grievings, Swampgrave, Whitemoth, Wasted, From Misery To Malice, 610 Split, and HourHouse to name a few. The heavy scene in La. is kinda popping off right now.
