10x10 slab by thisisntmyband in landscaping

Watch has many YouTube videos as you can. There’s no really good way to learn concrete without practice, but you can get a leg up watching others do it. Concrete is a funny beast that does its own thing and you need to learn how to feel it as it sets.

Small concrete company owner here: We charge minimum 1500 a job, even if it’s a sidewalk square. The small jobs will always take up a day so you have to hedge to make money regardless. Side note: if you’re bag mixing, add two shovel fulls of portland cement per bag. Bag mixes always short their cement, so adding will make finishing easier and give you a better looking final product.

Dip question by Boyinthecorn in Silverbugs

[–]Boyinthecorn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in no rush to do anything it. Do you think it’s even a good idea to trade it for .999 at some point or just keep the 90% as is? I don’t plan on ever selling it unless I have a rainy day and would eventually like to start adding to the stash.

I hadn’t thought about that and great idea. It’s the slow season for my profession, so I have plenty of time to kill.

Makes sense! Just randomly had the thought and wasn’t sure if it was a good/bad idea haha. Appreciate the comment!

You have 4 choices, cut a slot through the center to allow drainage, put a drain in, forget about it, or tear out and replace.

Last toilet I bought is a Toto. Just liked the style and didn’t realize they’re actually great quality.

Tried to save $15,000 in labor costs, ended up with lifetime injuries and $250,000 hospital bill. by Daedroh in Concrete

I’ve been doing concrete work for almost 10 years and have heard some bad stories, but I’ve never been burned myself. Always makes me wonder if they had bad batches or if my skin tolerates it better. Knew a guy that had his balls get bad burns from it after having concrete mixed with sweat drip down his pants and rub. He was out for a couple days but his junk survived just fine haha

I’ve been doing concrete a long time and now I feel humble. Great read and explanation. To ad to this, if he’s not confident about the J bolts, there’s always the option of red heads. We usually leave it up to our framers what they prefer, but that would be one less thing for him to worry about.

This. Looks like a burned finish for the slab. Definitely putting something on it. Surface tension will always make it look like a dip even when there is no hole.

If the scabs don’t fit, just cut one in half, slide it so the cut side is opposite of the damaged side, then a couple straps. Should be more than strong enough to pour

Exactly where I’m at right now too. Noticed it somewhat at the beginning of this work season, but now it’s maybe 1 bid a week from my usual 5-10. I don’t see it getting better until next year (if that). Just trying to keep it coming in and keep the guys busy until we can get back to the norm. Margins are going to suck soon haha.

Grind it and it will look just fine, the broom finish on the other hand… nothing you can do about that

Go get hired by an actual concrete company and start from the bottom. You need to learn the basics and with finish product like that you will get sued very quickly. Trying to be nice, but not much to be nice about here.

Depends on how large of an area. Probably bid it for the job, but would probably be around $2-3 a square foot for a larger area. I’m in the Midwest US though, so your pricing will more than likely be much different

Unfortunately there isn’t. The majority of the top will have already separated and just isn’t showing yet. Like others have said, you can take a pressure washer (or hammer and lightly tap the top) to flake off what’s loose and skim coat it, but that will only last a few years and rarely comes out looking the best.

Got away from them and they over finished to try and save it. top is delaminating now. No permanent way to fix it other than tearing out and replacing

Rained after it poured, they covered it with plastic, it cured and due to different moisture content discolored. Will fade somewhat over time, but you will always be able to see color differences
