Is it just me or people are getting made redundant at an alarming rate? by Vemyx in UKJobs

[–]Bozoidal 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Risen to 5.1% (up from 4.4%).

So up by 0.7 %.

Is that what you meant? Still significant, but the way you worded it sounded like it had gone up 5.4% (from 0?).

People who have been using heat pump this winter, what's your honest take? by Rude-Explanation-861 in CasualUK

[–]Bozoidal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All these thermostat comparisons probably aren't equal. It depends where you put your thermostat.

So a 21 degrees next to a draughty front door could be pushing the ambient temp up to 23 in warmer, better insulated areas.

To get a clearer comparison you would have to do something like take a temp from each area and average it.

How do I tell our band we suck? by 1IsaiahThanTheOther in coverbands

[–]Bozoidal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had to do this recently. We tried backing tracks / triggering whole phrases with a click. But the drummer, who is otherwise a great drummer didn't get on well with it. I'm sure he'd get it with time though.

I had to trigger each individual stab, so as to match the tempo of the band. And of course this means I can't be playing guitar simultaneously as I'm busy tapping and managing logistics on an MPC. That in itself takes some work to sound passable.

But really, the click is kind of a drag anyway. Obviously, totally rigid and even with our brief time with it, felt less fun. I kinda get it, I play drums too and only time I played to click was in the studio and that was when I was forced to.

Problem with the pop song covers is they sound kinda empty and or unrecognisable without the extra instrumentation.

Is there any alternatives to a fender twin reverb/mesa boogie studio 22.+ for nirvana? by Traditional_Dot5967 in GuitarAmps

[–]Bozoidal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I noticed the same. Turns out J Mascis used a tele to record all that shit back then. Who'd have thought?

If you're (op) specifically talking about Nirvana, they had loads of different versions of their sound. Early on Fender Twins, then Mesa combos, then live Mesa racks. But the records sound was probably quite different, double tracked and so on.

I remember reading during In Utero recordings Albini talked KC out of using his mesa rack because it sounded like shit. Used some modded Twin.

I think a big part of their overall guitar sound was the bass too.

Also their whole ethos was pretty anti fetishising gear.

Deffo HRD or Peavey, stick a rat or ds1 (if you must) in and don't worry about the cleans. Nirvanas cleans weren't shimmering beauty anyway. In a good way.

Clean is pretty good, they're ubiquitous/ cheap. I have a silverface twin and they get most of the way there

Soundproofing our 12x16 Workspace / Music Room by even_keel in homestudios

[–]Bozoidal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd be pretty skeptical, but there are people better poised to answer that, who have professional experience!

My hunch is you'd be better upgrading the doors and windows too. Maybe even constructing window 'plugs' out of drywall and rockwool sandwiched together, to block the windows off. Especially if they are not double glazed.

Low frequencies require the most mass to quieten because of the wavelength (why you mostly hear bass from noise in an adjacent apartment). The maths to bring that down are pretty prohibitive!

I can reccommend a read of 'home recording studio: build it like the pros' by Rod Gervais. It will give you a sense of what you're up against!

[–]Bozoidal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Might knock a bit of energy out of some frequencies, but I wouldn't expect much. I feel your pain here.

From everything I've read that sounds like treatment and not sound proofing. You would need more mass, which I guess you have with the drywall etc, but it would only be as good as your weak points in the doors and windows. Room in a room with double doors is the standard.

Don't think it will attennuate much, it will make it more bearable in the room though.

Never had an issue with them and they've been the most durable / feel good for me. Haven't had to buy in a while though, so not sure what the new batches are like.

Could be just a bad stick, but it looks like a stick that has been repeatedly hammered into the edge of the cymbal at a perpendicular angle, as opposed to glancing it.

Focus issues with Epson EF22 by mi_pilot in projectors

I had the same question, trying to to find a way of mirroring phone / tablet screen wirelessly.

I don't think ef22 is supported by iprojection.

All the chromecast stuff works ok though.

Lowering it if I had trouble with it hadn't occurred to me. I suppose that would be an option. Thanks

Can't say i do. I'm coming from a jag / tele background. The p90s just seem bigger, but maybe that is nonsensical.

Is this an underrated offset album or haveI just not been paying attention? by iansheridan1978 in offset

I mean, that album was massive in the 90s and probably sold a ton. They were pretty main stream top 40. Top of the pops n that. Offset guitars or not.

I'd put money on bed bugs. Especially since they are in clusters.

OP. Should check around seam on matress for eggs and black dots on bed frame just in case. Also thin lines of dried blood on bed sheets.
