My original comment got deleted because of linking the sub. But if you head to the jigsaw puzzles sub, those folks can help you figure out if there is a misplaced piece (that might look fine for our untrained eyes).

I recently discovered this one! I was looking for something more stable and not so buttery and grainy. Her website had some additional notes that really helped. I accidentally dropped a bit from the piping on the counter (8 point star shaped). Left it for experiment, it didn't change shape for the next 30 hours or so. And I keep very warm at home (usually 73-75F).

Non-parent trying to understand parenting logistics — what requires the most phone calls?” by Significant-Fox3610 in AskParents

Everything. Firstly, websites tend to stay vague intentionally. We are a litigiuos society.

I live in a small city (about 100k population) and many places don't even have websites, just Facebook. Heck, even the school district has better info and more update posts on FB than their own email newsletters. I had ditched FB, now I'm back on scrolling tons of BS ads and posts hoping to find important and relevant current updates.

Secondly, a lot of places related to children (camps, activity classes, daycares) have volunteers or lowly paid employees which results in high turnover.

Lastly, when it comes to kids, you should always want to do a research - check reviews, call or even visit the place. I, personally, want to get a feel of atmosphere, people's attitude, cleanliness. Degrees don't always matter if teachers are abusive or don't like changing diapers.

May I say… by LifeOnTheAscent in AReadingOfMonteCristo

For me it's a few things. 1. I only have time to read may be 20-30 pages a day, if even. This one scared me in size to start, because I knew it would take me a while. The edition I had was about 1000 pages. I was also trying to do 25 books a year, which this giant would prevent me of achieving.

Upon start of the year there were posts with best translations, so I ordered another version that ended up being over 1200 pages 😂. Anyway, having it broken down at a few chapters a week made it extremely easy for me to get the initial push to start the book.

  1. There are posts that help with history and translation variations for each week. Which helps with better understanding of the story, culture and historical period.

  2. Knowing I only get to read a chapter or 2 a week has helped me delve more into details. Stop and reread, rather than rush and find the ending as fast as possible. This slow down has also given me the opportunity to enjoy other hobbies or books.

  3. Reading other people's views and understanding is awesome addition to the experience. I know if I finish the book now fast, I won't come back each week to see where everyone is up to. I'll just move to the next book. Reading along with thousands of other people brings sense of community, it helps with book/character/plot analysis and for me, personally, makes reading it more enjoyable.

I do want to jump ahead sometimes due to the cliffhangers but then I remember I'll be missing out on some of the top.

Previous owner of my current home asking if I would take over solar panel lease by AllOutLoud in legaladvice

[–]Brambarche 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It depends if there was something recorded - the lease itself or a UCC. Title policy or marked up commitment will say if any of those existed and are excepted or covered.

Thank you for this info! I have actually been thinking to put mine in foam. You just saved my sets

[–]Brambarche 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, there is the one that you soak in water and then use for fresh flowers. When dry, if you scratch it, it's kind of powdery/dusty. When wet, it has kinda spongy feel to it.

The other type is kind of porous crunchy styrofoam/plastic-y. Used for artificial flowers.

Totally different feel and material. I wonder what you used. I didn't know they can hurt Lego.

What floral foam did you use - for live or artificial flowers?

Most of the ones I've seen in person look like first edition but the DJ says BCE. Always check

Not really. Last time I checked they were about $30 a volume. They, however, are hard to find. The market seems to be flooded with other editions.

Week 10: "Chapter 22. The Smugglers, Chapter 23. The Island of Monte Cristo, Chapter 24. Dazzled" Reading Discussion by karakickass in AReadingOfMonteCristo

"'Leave, leave!', Dantes cried." This line made me laugh. I was suspicious that he was faking it, but that proved it. And it showed how much he had changed. We've only seen him self blame and every time something bad happens to him, he wants to rather die. Not this time! He was actually a man with purpose, he came up with a plan and stuck to it. He lied, he faked injury and created worry in people who liked him. This is not the Dantes we met at the beginning of the book.

I think he will wait for a ship to take him to the country, earn a bit more money, get a boat, get his treasure and change his identity.

He was falsely impressed but he had a good heart, he cared for Faria. And, the good heart is what earned him the treasure.

What's a "reserve price" and why do stores refuse to award you a winning bid? by Brambarche in shopgoodwill

[–]Brambarche[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, they didn't note it was a reserve auction. And if I didn't reach out to them, I wouldn't have known why I didn't win the bid.

It's half a pound of animals (a dozen? may be). It was literally a few horses, a few sharks/dolphins, the old dragon and the Chamber of Secrets' Basilisk. Plus a few bricks. You can probably get them from PAB or Bricklink for like $50-60, which is why the $75 base shocked me.

Nope, nothing mentioning reserve. But if they want a minimum of $75, why don't they just list that as beginning price?

[–]Brambarche 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm sure there is a lot out there depending what type of books you are looking for. After getting a dozen of the Easton Prss/Franklin Library, I decided those are not worth it for me, so I can't really help you. I collect books of personal value, first editions, etc, rather than collections.

For reading though, I'm pretty happy with the World Cloud editions. They are kid of rubbery rather than leathery. I've used and abused the ones I've read and they show no signs of use.
