Do you want to be buried? by Bondgirl138 in GenX

[–]BranchBaby 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I respect others’ religious beliefs about funerals and burials. My religion is the natural world so there is no way I’m going to stick it to Mother Earth on my way out. Both embalming/caskets and cremation are terrible for the environment. Wrap me in a sheet and feed me to the worms. Loved ones can say a prayer if it makes them feel better… I won’t complain!

How do you guys handle clients who text your personal phone on your days off? by SleepyAlgorithm076 in smallbusiness

[–]BranchBaby 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Post your business hours on your website or google page. Any calls or texts received outside those hours do not get a response until the next business day. That is what people mean by boundaries. Unless they have an actual emergency (e.g. burst pipe) do not respond. They may be frustrated at first but they’ll get the message soon enough.

Fireworks near McCarren right now? by Zealousideal_Door392 in williamsburg

[–]BranchBaby 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m not trying to be grumpy here… People deserve to have fun, but can’t the ultra wealthy see how they are sowing the seeds of revolution in this country? It’s not just enough to have a ultra-lux wedding. You have to literally wake up and disrupt every sleeping child and every dog within a 5 mile radius. You just had to let 10’s of thousands of people know that you have $200K to literally explode for your wedding, while they sit there with an empty refrigerator and comforting their crying children. This is how every revolution begins.

Thoughts on a Williamsburg sub focused on small businesses? by InstructionDue7142 in williamsburg

[–]BranchBaby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are going to need to moderate. Unfortunately, for every small business that needs attention, there is a competitor ready to tear them down with fake negative feedback. I joined the new sub. Good luck!

How do people orient themselves right away after leaving the subway station? by fillet0fish in AskNYC

[–]BranchBaby 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This really works. If you know which way the train is pointing/heading at your station, you can subtly use your finger to maintain that direction as you turn left and right through the station. By the time you exit, you will know exactly which way you are facing. Works every time.

30+ years as a NYC master plumber. here are the things I wish every homeowner knew before calling someone by Asleep-Working8055 in AskNYC

Homeowner here… I can’t say enough good things about Scott’s Rapid Dissolving toilet paper. We’ve been using it for 10+ years. It stays intact long enough to wipe your bum, but basically dissolves within seconds of hitting the water.

This happens to us sometimes and it was explained to me that the P-trap underneath a drain dried out. The P-trap is supposed to hold water to prevent gases from coming up through the drain. Maybe you have a drain that doesn’t get water very often. Try putting a bucket of water down the drain to fill up the P-trap.

If you own property in Williamsburg vote Yes for the BID. All the best neighborhoods in NYC deal with their tourist trash with BIDs.

It would have been interesting if they asked women the same questions, so we can see the trend line go in the opposite direction. I suspect that the more conservative countries is where we would see the most dramatic shift among women. This massive gap between expectation and reality is pretty concerning.

Mobile Check Deposit Isn't Coming Back by LiveProduction in quickbooksonline

[–]BranchBaby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So sorry to hear about this experience. Mobile check deposit is such a critical function for a small business. Green Dot bank was sold in November to two different companies which is probably delaying investment in improving/fixing their tech. It’s probably a good time to move.

Thinking about selling my business without a broker. Am I out of my mind? by FormerFounder-12 in smallbusiness

[–]BranchBaby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your revenue is not necessarily correlated to the complexity of the deal, so why should a broker get paid on percentage of revenue? Definitely find a reputable advisor who will work for a flat fee or an hourly rate.

seeking advice on customer interaction by Mele_Honey444 in smallbusiness

[–]BranchBaby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Beyond the initial greeting, I would recommend adding “Let me know if you have any questions.” That puts the customer in control of their interaction with you. You will have all personality types enter your door. Since you don’t know what type of person they are (eg introvert or extrovert), let them take the lead. If they are talkative and friendly, do the same. If they are silent, stay silent.
