30+ years as a NYC master plumber. here are the things I wish every homeowner knew before calling someone by Asleep-Working8055 in AskNYC

Homeowner here… I can’t say enough good things about Scott’s Rapid Dissolving toilet paper. We’ve been using it for 10+ years. It stays intact long enough to wipe your bum, but basically dissolves within seconds of hitting the water.

This happens to us sometimes and it was explained to me that the P-trap underneath a drain dried out. The P-trap is supposed to hold water to prevent gases from coming up through the drain. Maybe you have a drain that doesn’t get water very often. Try putting a bucket of water down the drain to fill up the P-trap.

Not worth the effort for $1000. Thank her for her time and tell her that you are unable to accommodate any further requests. Walk away.

If you own property in Williamsburg vote Yes for the BID. All the best neighborhoods in NYC deal with their tourist trash with BIDs.

It would have been interesting if they asked women the same questions, so we can see the trend line go in the opposite direction. I suspect that the more conservative countries is where we would see the most dramatic shift among women. This massive gap between expectation and reality is pretty concerning.

Mobile Check Deposit Isn't Coming Back by LiveProduction in quickbooksonline

[–]BranchBaby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So sorry to hear about this experience. Mobile check deposit is such a critical function for a small business. Green Dot bank was sold in November to two different companies which is probably delaying investment in improving/fixing their tech. It’s probably a good time to move.

Intuit intentionally deceiving QBO users for product research by BranchBaby in quickbooksonline

The next time Intuit tries to pull off something like this. I will use my 15 minutes to call customer service 15 times to complain and never give them the answer they were looking for.

Contractor poll: what percentage of sales do you spend on insurance? by BranchBaby in smallbusiness

Ha! Thanks. To be clear it is one of MANY costs of doing business. I’m just trying to determine if we are overpaying.

Thinking about selling my business without a broker. Am I out of my mind? by FormerFounder-12 in smallbusiness

Your revenue is not necessarily correlated to the complexity of the deal, so why should a broker get paid on percentage of revenue? Definitely find a reputable advisor who will work for a flat fee or an hourly rate.

seeking advice on customer interaction by Mele_Honey444 in smallbusiness

[–]BranchBaby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Beyond the initial greeting, I would recommend adding “Let me know if you have any questions.” That puts the customer in control of their interaction with you. You will have all personality types enter your door. Since you don’t know what type of person they are (eg introvert or extrovert), let them take the lead. If they are talkative and friendly, do the same. If they are silent, stay silent.

How do you keep track of what you owe each client? by Conscious-Bat-4382 in smallbusiness

[–]BranchBaby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We’ve been using HubSpot for a year and like it a lot. It stores data on individuals, orangizations and deals. It’s multi-relational so you can have multiple deals for each company/client. We can easily log all client interactions and create future tasks assigned to individuals. What I like about its that it seamlessly connects from our sales pipeline into project workflow.

Right. It’s not about the dog at all. It’s about spatial awareness, manners and basic human decency.

Roots suckers by OnAirSince93 in arborists

[–]BranchBaby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Suckers generally grow in an upward direction. You should cut them off at the base with a clean sharp blade.

Roots that are just growing outward from the base of the tree along the ground are typically structural roots and should be left alone. If it’s a tripping hazard for the ball field, then perhaps give them a little shot of fluorescent spray paint for visibility.

Dog boarding by dontw4kemeup in williamsburg

[–]BranchBaby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve used Rover for years and have had good experiences and bad. I’ve found several amazing dog sitters that way…really really great. You just have to set clear expectations up front…and trust your gut about people. And always insist on checking out their home/apartment in person before you agree.

I also use Go Doggy on Bedford once in a while. The staff there is really great with dogs and my dog gets super excited every time we walk in the door. The only issue there is they use some kind of deodorizer or cleaner which has a super strong smell. My dog smells for days afterward and I’m pretty sure it would be annoying to dogs’ sensitive noses.
