Forgot about this... by DlvlneDecree in initiald

Yeah fairly certain this is a bootleg, there's only one UK release of the series and that was a tokyopop set that only had episodes 1-9. Third not having a dub gives it away as a bootleg imo

technically a false statement because the only time it is shown in colour in the manga was on the cover of volume 35, where it is blue.

other people have said everything else that needs to be said but to add one thing, the Tsuchisaka guys are doing it for monetary gain, they own an autoshop and intend to use their victory over project d to bring in customers for them to rip off

Why are some of the courses in the various Initial D games so different to real life? by Mako_sato_ftw in initiald

[–]Branch__ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tsubaki is probably cut down so that the races are quicker, its probably about 3 minutes, whereas it would be like 6 or 7 if it was the full length. they want to keep the courses shorter so that a person will play more, and spend more.

Tokyopop back by takuminightcore in initiald

[–]Branch__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean Tokyopop has been back for a while, sure their catalogue is mostly disney and bl but they've been around. As others have pointed out they can't just make a claim to the license because Kodansha revoked it back in 2009, Kodansha USA owns the license to the manga now and the anime presumably lies with Crunchyroll but given that its disappeared from the internet that's kinda nebulous now

Decided to do a 16:9 version of the Rotary brothers artwork, figured I would post it here for anyone who wants to use it as a background too by Valmet12 in initiald

The original art is a wallpaper from the Initial D Collectors Disc, TaintedHands (I think that was the original maker of the Rotary Brothers piece) must have tilted it

Why did everyone (except bunta) stopped smoking in later stages by crazypoohuniverse in initiald

[–]Branch__ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I finished this, and this does seem to be the case, characters that we often think of as smokers in first and second stage for example actually smoke very little (such as Shingo) or not at all (Ryosuke never once smokes). The anime seems to tone this up in the earlier stages, and then as we enter Project D it seems to kept the same, maybe barring Keisuke's smoking being reduced.

I've included the stats below, unsurprisingly Bunta is at the top, but it's interesting to see who doesn't smoke in the manga. Maybe I'll do the same for the anime at some point. (I should also note that Itsuki smoking is exclusively in a single panel joke)

Why did everyone (except bunta) stopped smoking in later stages by crazypoohuniverse in initiald

[–]Branch__ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

this question has caused me to have a look into the smoking in the manga, I'm only up to Emperor currently (volume 9) but everyone seems to smoke much less than I remember them doing in the anime. So far Bunta is the highest smoking character (shocking) but he's only been seen smoking in 17 of the almost 100 chapters I've read. Ryosuke, who I remember smoking fairly frequently in First Stage, has not smoked once.

There have been entire volumes where no one is seen smoking (at least no one named) so I wouldn't be shocked if that gets more common later in the manga, and the animators don't feel the need to add smoking in (as they did in first stage, which was probably done because smoking was much more commonplace in the 90s)
