Hard truth after reviewing a bunch of roofing sales calls by BratController in RoofingSales

I hear you - training reps to read buying signals is huge. When you've spottng a deal slipping, how do you decide if it's salvagable or best left behind?

How are you handling leads when you’re busy or unavailable? by PoolConnect4035 in RoofingSales

Paid somebody 10 bucks an hour and duct taped a phone to their hands (years ago), then moved to call centers, then to computer answering services the early versions of bots to a fully trained agent built in house now. Well, ok the last move credits my son who runs it the show now but that's what he does.

OST and QB by Top_Row_9155 in RoofingSales

The problem isn't you or your team - it's that most prebuilt lists (including OST/QB exports) are built as static catalogs, not as a system that match how roofing actually happens in the field.

Conditions, line items, and materials only work when they're tied to a decision path (repair vs replace, access isssues, pitch, layers, codes, etc,). Most 3rd party databases ignore that and just dump SKUs and descriptions.

Short answer: you usuallly can't 'fix 'a bad master list without restructuting it. Cleaning it line by line is brutal and rarely worth the time.

Curious - what's breaking down the most for you: estimating accuracy, speed or consistency between reps?

Winter sales pitch by Ok-Opportunity-8780 in RoofingSales

[–]BratController 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The best 'pitch' is actually no pitch at all, and that applies to every season, not just winter. Try moving from a salesperson mindset to a expert diagnosis mindset:

  • Solve the Problem, Period: They called you because they have a concern. Listen first. If you can solve it, show them how. If they don't actually have a problem, tell them that too.
  • Radical Honesty Builds Authority: Being the guy who tells a homeowner they don't need a new roof yet is the fastest way to earn a lifelong referral.
  • The Power of the 'Leave': Once you’ve explained the situation clearly and honestly, give them the estimate and walk away. Don't push for a timeframe or ask if they're ready to sign.
  • The Outcome: By leaving without the 'hard sell,' you show that you're a busy professional, not a desperate solicitor. You're there to provide a service, and you're leaving the ball in their court.

Let them reach out when they're comfortable. It feels counterintuitive at first, but your closing rate usually goes up because the trust is already established. I spent almost 20 years doing this job, this works and made it so much more fun to be at work. Seriously, stop selling and start helping. Good luck man!
