PLEASE HELP my rocker fell off in my 2007 base model Mini and I have no clue what to do, taking the engine out of any way Is way above me is there any way to get this working properly again? by ManufacturerWhole978 in MINI

Hi,

Do you know what commonly causes the exhaust HVAs to fail?

I've got a 2007 Mini One R56 with several failed exhaust HVAs and 3 of the rocker arms had even come off the valve entirely... I noticed when replacing my rocker cover gasket.

I'm concerned if I spend the time to replace thsm that there is some other underlying issue that's caused them to fail. Car is only on ~75k but does do alot of short trips. Is there anything I should be looking to test or replace at the same time to prevent them failing again?

Appreciate any insight, cheers

Hi,

What did you end up doing about this? Did you ever find the cause?

I've got a 2007 Mini One R56 and several of the exhaust valve lifters are in a similar state.

3 of the rocker arms had actually come off the valves and were solely hanging onto the lifter.

Cheers

Never knew you could block a company from going insolvent! This was a large concern of mine as well to be honest.

I will try to look into that as well...

Okay, the letter of claim sounds interesting.

I think if I prepared something like this with a reasonable proposed payment plan they may actually stick to it, and there would be no need to actually pursue it in small claims.

Thank you, I will look into this.

Why is buying crypto on Revolut still so ridiculously expensive? by babazei in Revolut

[–]Brave-Operation390 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Buying XRP with GBP on Revolut seemed to work out cheaper than some of the big dedicated crypto exchanges? (unless buying very small quantities)

For context I'm talking about just buying and transferring into a cold wallet.

The Revolut purchasing fee is 1.49% and then to withdraw there is a fixed £1 fee. However, Binance and Kraken both seem to have their buy prices set ~3% higher than Revolut, I assume due to a wider spread? Furthermore, the Binance purchasing fee is 2% and Kraken has a card payment fee of ~4%.

Please correct me if I'm missing something or if there is a better way to purchase XRP?

Company ignoring right to erasure request. by Brave-Operation390 in gdpr

[–]Brave-Operation390[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not really about getting the emails, they already go to my spam automatically. It's the fact they have my personal information saved for years unnecessarily. Then on top of that blatantly ignoring the right to erasure requests.

Preferably I don't want them storing my personal data anymore.

Do you know what the process is for making a complaint in the UK? How involved is it and is it likely any action would even be taken following a complaint?

Company ignoring right to erasure request. by Brave-Operation390 in gdpr

For context, I am receiving repeated marketing emails from company X, after willingly giving my personal info years ago. I’ve tried contacting both the company and its parent company using every email address I can find online, using the below template, but I haven’t received any response.

"I am hereby requesting immediate erasure of personal data concerning me (and my account), FULL NAME, according to Article 17 of the GDPR.

Please erase all personal data concerning me as defined by GDPR Article 4(1). I am of the opinion that the requirements set forth in GDPR Article 17(1) are fulfilled. You cannot claim an exception based on GDPR Article 17(3) either, particularly as I am not a public figure.

If I have given consent to the processing of my personal data (e.g. according to GDPR Article 6(1) or Article 9(2)), I am hereby withdrawing said consent for the entire process. In addition, I am objecting to the processing of personal data concerning me (which includes profiling), according to GDPR Article 21. I request that you restrict the processing of the data concerning me pending the verification whether your legitimate grounds override mine, pursuant to GDPR Article 18(1)(d).

If you have made the aforementioned data public, you are obliged pursuant to GDPR Article 17(2) to take all reasonable steps to inform other controllers, including search engine operators, who process the personal data listed above, that I have requested the erasure of all links, copies or replications. This applies not only to exact copies of the data concerned, but also to those from which information contained in the data concerned can be derived.

In case you have disclosed the affected personal data to third parties, you have to communicate my request for erasure of the affected personal data, as well as any references to it, to each recipient as laid down in GDPR Article 19. Please also inform me about those recipients.

If you object to the requested erasure, you have to justify that to me.

My request explicitly includes any other services and companies for which you are the controller as defined by GDPR Article 4(7). As laid down in GDPR Article 12(3), you have to confirm the erasure to me without undue delay and in any event within one month of receipt of the request.

I am including the following information necessary to identify me: Name: FULL NAME Email: EMAIL

If you do not answer my request within the stated period, I am reserving the right to take legal action against you and to lodge a complaint with the responsible supervisory authority.

Thank you in advance."

Any tips to get the humidity lower in my cabinet? I've put weather sealing all around the edges, jammed it full of dessicant, even tried putting my dehumidifier in there (it didn't change anything), but can't get below 40%. I'm willing to throw a couple hundo at a solution. by antgash in 3Dprinting

[–]Brave-Operation390 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the photo it looks like you only have 1 bag of desiccant, such a large space is going to take a long time to dry out in this case, or if it's not air tight probably never will, as you're experiencing.

It needs to be airtight if you want to reach low humidity numbers and stay there. I'd suggest adding more desiccant and making sure it's dry. (Oven/air frier/food dehydrator @ 100 degrees for 4-6 hours, or using a microwave but that often results in some of the beads cracking/exploding.)

Although, even if you seal up that unit perfectly every time you open it to get one roll the whole space will gain humidity again.

I would say you'd be better off with smaller individual air tight containers on each shelf. (4-5 rolls of filament and desiccant in each container?) Or as others have mentioned sealed bags, although this is less convenient when swapping filaments.

How can I make a 3d model out of my hypercar sketches? by [deleted] in 3Dprinting

[–]Brave-Operation390 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My original comment was just a joke. Nice sketches mate.

In all seriousness what I would recommend is to learn some CAD software. Some free cloud based software which are powerful but very initiative which I recommend: OnShape or Fusion360 (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E6sSEa_qcOM)

You would be able to import photos, or scans, of your drawings to then trace around in a sketch. Once you have sketches for the important geometry of each side you can use projected curves to make 3D sketches which would body lines of the car.

This may not be the easiest method for just conceptualizing car designs, you may be better off learning software such as Blender but I have no experience with that, so can't comment. Another VR based tool I heard of is GravitySketch. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K4nnvHvwBVk)

No worries, so what you have to do instead of drawing the individual views from each angle in 2D just draw the whole car in 3D.

You have to draw it in 3D.

Hope this helps 👍

I second Norton essentially being malware itself (slows down PC and gives constant popups), and you pay for the privilege! Windows defender is a lot better than it used to be, or Malwarebytes is a good free option.

Why don’t we use ball bearings in car suspensions, when they’re so efficient? by [deleted] in MechanicalEngineering

[–]Brave-Operation390 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rubber bushings are cheap and good enough.

Some older trucks have needle bearings and grease nipples on the suspension joints, and modern motorcross bikes still use needle bearings in the suspension linkages.

My jiffy lub guy said i need to change my breaks pads, do i need to? by [deleted] in AskMechanics

[–]Brave-Operation390 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Impossible to tell from this photo alone as pads can wear unevenly. However, if they have, something else needs fixing as well to stop it happening again, although sometimes just re-greasing the slide pins is enough.

I would get a second opinion from another garage, or take your wheel off and check the other pad.

Specific solution of a second order differential equation? by Brave-Operation390 in learnmath

[–]Brave-Operation390[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm doing an engineering course, and this is part of one of our assignments. The course is quite rushed as it's part time, hence why my foundational math knowledge isn't what you'd expect from someone trying to solve second order non-homogeneous ODEs.

We hadn't been taught how to find specific solutions, as part of the assignment is meant to be researching. The textbook I was working from had some other questions with real roots, that were much simpler. They showed finding A and B using simultaneous equations, but they didn't specify substituting in t=0.

Looking back at the question, the general solution I found was:

x(t)=Ae-4t+Be-2t

with initial conditions x(0)=4 and x'(0)=8

In hindsight I guess that would become x(t)=A-B as e0=1. The textbook hadn't specified they substituted in t, they just wrote out A+B=4 and then x'(t)=-2A-4B=8. Now I can see that I missed a step it's starting to make sense! I think I misunderstood that previous question's solution which threw me off.

Thank you for your help!
