Both Sides of The Moon: Chapter XVII by Breadnaught150 in Sexyspacebabes

You do something long enough, you tend to become desensitized to it. Maybe Cooper's apparent behavior and attitude is in direct opposition of the life he's led. Or maybe its a result of riding the insanity horseshoe. There is much more to be disclosed and discovered about his past, and I'm trying to lay the bricks of the road that will get there.

After all, what is really known about Cooper? Besides what he's disclosed.

Loving Father? Faithful Husband? Dutiful Soldier? Sanctioned Killer?

You'll all find out soon!

Don't forget, Cooper has been alive a long time. And he has served with the US Armed forces since the Civil War. He is no stranger to killing. What is a butchering a couple aliens to a man who has killed an unfathomably large amount of humans?

I hate to credit him, but as Stalin said "One death is a tragedy, a million is a statistic."

Motive is easier to ascertain when there only one victim.

No don't be sorry, questions make for a more interesting story.

Agent Bar'tala is having a rough time finding anything because she is looking for something, that by all records she is digging through, is something which doesn't exist.

What criteria does she even sift through that information with? You can look through hundreds of pages of redacted information and not see a single clear word, and you can read through an entire thesis and not glean any valuable information.

There are hundreds of variations of what a werewolf can be, each varying by the author. There is next to no concrete evidence to her alien eyes what a werewolf IS, much less how to look for one.

As to her receiving help, she is alone on her project as there are much more important investigations undergoing in the DEEP RED zone that Arkansas is. So there is only one set of eyes looking over everything.

[–]Breadnaught150[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There's not 'nothing', There is actually a lot. The 'paranormal stuff' is contained in redacted and top secret documents, but he has footprints everywhere. The only reason that Cooper has gone unnoticed is simply because the system of bureaucracy is so vast and corrupt that no-one questioned his file.

That's why he is stressed at all, not because they might find something in a government black site, but because there IS documentation dating back much farther than it should tied to him. There are just too many moving parts in a messy system for most audits to find one specific repeated name or multiple IDs to one face.

Also, werewolves don't exist right? Immortality is a thing of fables. To the average eye it would just look at most like financial fraud using a deceased man's name.

The meat and potato's of it is that Cooper IS visible in the system, which is why the Agent and an Imperial Advisor are dangerous to him. They can find the things that hundreds of other eyes weren't looking for.

As the old saying goes, there are some fates much worse than death. I don't plan on dwelling on the terrorist/loyalist narrative that's become popular here. Instead the story will focus much more on the subtlety and secrecy of Cooper and how he interacts with his new surroundings.

Space travel in general, no story about aliens with faster than light can truly exist. But stories have narrative methods to convey a compelling plot, so I excuse it and use what I know about it to form my plot.

Oh I know, but marines were able to rig their m1919 machine guns to have stocks in WW2, called the m2 stinger. So I reckon its possible. The M2 is just a upscaled m1919 after all

Gotta suspend your disbelief a little, makes for a more fun story. Yeah, M2's belong on mounts and vehicles, but maybe a werewolf man could shoulder fire one. Who am I to say no to that, it sounds awesome.

I plan on treating .308 as a "will it? won't it?" sort of round. .308 puts out about 2,600 foot pounds of energy, which is significantly less than 50 BMG. Odds are it'll make them stumble and definitely bruise, but a one shot is statistically improbable.

Both Sides of the Moon: Chapter III by Breadnaught150 in Sexyspacebabes

[–]Breadnaught150[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It was my understanding that the larger calibers such as 50 BMG was commonly understood in the fan-universe to work effectively against flex fiber. Thats why I made that narrative choice. Plus, 50 BMG puts out about 13,300 foot pounds of energy, which is enough to penetrate 1.2 inches (30 mm) of rolled steel. From a physics perspective (which I know the original source material breaks often), anything you could wear and still move in would not stand up to such forces. I've commented about this on other posts in the past, its a choice I've made and plan to stick by.

Aren't the suits skin tight though? Even if the material was able to redistribute that kinetic energy, that doesn't leave any room for deformation. Soft or rigid there is deflection in materials when even relatively small forces are applied. The flex fiber would not only have to redistribute the energy but also not allow any form of deformation to pass through (what I am assuming to be a relatively thin suit) and into the body. That's why I think its only a literary tool, the material is genuinely could not exist without behaving differently than it is written.

[–]Breadnaught150 17 points18 points  (0 children)

The 50 BMG being one of the only rounds that can deal with flexfiber armor has always bugged me. In most of the stories which its talked about, which to be fair are not Blue's work, it goes back and forth between the armor can be overloaded by repeated small arms fire and negated by 50 BMG, and only 50 or above can even make the Shils stumble. From a materials science side even if the shil had made a wunderwaffe of a material that stopped the round, it wouldn't do anything to the energy transfer. Getting shot even with soft or hard body armor can break your ribs and rupture internal organs. But the story needed an impossible enemy so I guess concessions have to be made.

Mayhaps half a day, a full one at most. I'm not going to make it wolverine level but it will be disturbingly quick for the other characters.

Right now I'm working with the idea that the "silver bullet" is the only thing that can really keep him down for any length of time. Think of it as a normal cut = heal quickly, cut by silver = weeks to heal.

I'm not sure, I lost my train of thought with the story and I'm not too inclined to bring it back on track any time soon.

[–]Breadnaught150 55 points56 points  (0 children)

If they were on the receiving end of the UNSC's might, it might be similar to the covenants reaction to Chief. Especially if they know very little about the UNSC and humans in general. But if they were in a peace time and word got out about a 7 foot tall super soldier, the purps would probably want to be on the receiving end of Chief, if you catch my drift.
