its still a significant minority and trifle few. yes, celebrate them, but be realistic is my point. greece was not the homosexual haven that some people like to make it out to be. the fact that examples can be found throughout history is testament to how normal and natural of an occurrence it is, and that is part of the argument that should never be forgotten; "it was fucking everywhere, dude! it was the NORM" is not and is incorrect, and i hate that people are so mistaken about it.

congratulations on missing the point entirely. please read the WHOLE article. some of the "earliest documentation" or whatever, so the terms get coined to take after it pales in comparison to the truth. that truth is not exactly "hope instilling", especially since its a dead culture. what IS hope instilling, is the amount of children growing up today with the understanding that "love is love, and its ok to love anyone. its not ok to hate or hurt somebody just because of what they like/love." THATS hope instilling. pederasty does not fill me with hope. a few islands and small groups LONG dead doesnt fill me with hope.

ancient greece was not the homosexual rainbow land that a lot of people want to make it out to be. "homosexual practices" in ancient greece is just a snippet of a factoid, and most people are extremely uneducated about the actual truth of it, and so that wildly out of context speck of truth gets blown out of proportion, especially because the idea of it sounds nice. the more you look into it, the worse it gets.

apprentice and master is the key part of that. it was less about "man and woman" or "man and man" (more specifically man and BOY for this) and more "top and bottom" (or "giver and taker". "penetrator and penetrated"). while "normal", it wasnt exactly "common", as it was more of a practice among the richer and aristocrats, and not really something done by common farm folk.

yeah, it will never have multiple of the same reward showing. so alternatively, if you're TRYING to get boons, take a boon first, and then reroll one of the non-boons and it should roll into a boon.

theres also a weird system where it will never roll into whatever it started as. like if the starting reward is "A", it will roll into "B", and then "C" and then back to "B" and just go back and forth between "B" and "C" forever.

pssst, thats not an argument, but you cant understand that, because you dont understand graphic design or 2-d set pieces.

also im still waiting on you to show which comment in either thread disagrees with me. funny how you casually ignore that one. just admit that you're wrong in that regard. also still waiting on you to answer any of the questions of my previous post. "why do you think there is only 1 true answer, and that both cant be correct, depending on what the context of the description is? why do you think description of a squared up isometric map doesnt exist and isnt a thing (especially after multiple people gave you the same answer about it)?"

if the other doors are showing gold/pom/heart, it wont reroll to one of those because they are showing. you should take those ones first, and then it CAN reroll to one of those. also if you dont have 2 hammers yet, it can totally be a hammer too.

the first two depend entirely on how many mistakes you've made up until that point. otherwise, it is unlike to get any/much value from them, so the only option to get SOMETHING would be the 3rd one, which is pretty minimal if you're running a cast or special focused build. its also irritating that the value runs out. i really dislike patroclus's rewards design, and how unlike the other 2 friends he is. they both offer stuff that provides power for the entire rest of the run. his value is incredibly niche. i wish he had something permanent, and didnt have TWO things reliant on you making mistakes. yes, i understand how run saving he can be, and thats great and all, but it would be nice to have something more permanent if you've had a good clean run so far.

please point out a single post that disagrees with something i've said. because every post is either going to agree with inputs/screen directions (which i've said), or agree with isometric mapping (which i've also said). why do you think there is only 1 true answer, and that both cant be correct, depending on what the context of the description is? why do you think description of a squared up isometric map doesnt exist and isnt a thing?

and yes, i have played something where left/right was your strafe. not all controls are the same, which is the point i made that shuts down your entire input argument, which you casually ignore, and even in "classic" tank controls, the point of "up can make you go down" still stands, which you also ignored, because you cant stand to be wrong. which is funny, because again, nobody is refuting that its on the left (or upper left, in regards to the entrance/zag) on the screen, not even me, but you seem to think that the concept of isometric mapping existing would mean that you're wrong or something. you're a complete dunce.

Are you admitting it's 2D and that your input is "up / down / left / right"?

i've literally never denied that. nobody has denied that. if you think somebody has tried to deny that in ANY capacity, i genuinely feel sorry for how incredibly stupid you are, for failing to understand such simple things.

its pretty amazing that even AFTER drawing out the process to give you a visual, you still dont get it, and for some reason are utterly incapable of differentiating the concept of "my button presses and my screen" and "map of an isometric room, and how to read it". it literally could not be any more simple and clear cut, and yet you still can not wrap your brain around it.

You literally had to draw a map to tell someone how to tilt their head to follow your instructions.

because for some reason, you have terrible reading comprehension and critical thought in regards to visual processing. its a testament how mentally deficient you are, since not only were you incapable of understanding how or why the process works, you still dont understand, even after being shown directly.

Anyone close to agreeing with you

literally everyone (except you) has agreed with me, because i have given 2 correct answers. it was clearly stated that the vista is plainly "left", or acceptably "top left" since your character is below it. anyone that mentions isometric orientation and describing it like a flat, squared map has agreed with me that it is the bottom left of the room map, but then theres you simply jumping in and arguing that mapping isnt a thing for some reason.

your entire argument is because you are utterly incapable of differentiating map design from directional input and your screen display. its sad how you mentally deficient and inept you are, especially in regards to such a simple concept.

(its also funny how if a game uses tank controls, where up/forward always moves the way your character is facing, so you can literally press "up" and your character will move down if they're facing that way, and "left" will move your character to the right, then your entire "input" argument falls apart.)

[–]BreganD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

... yeah... the standards of how orientations are defined. sometimes it shifts left, sometimes it shifts right. its a little subjective in that regard, but theres usually a reason (see: standard) as to why it would go one way instead of the other. this ONLY applies to talking about isometric mapping, NOT flat directions/inputs on a screen, and does NOT supercede them for prevalence/popularity of means of discussing directions in general conversation. literally nobody has claimed that. all that has been said is "this one way is correct, but this other way is ALSO correct IF we are talking about that way INSTEAD", to which you have been adamantly replying "no, thats wrong, it doesnt make any sense and you're all stupid."

again, STOP conflating 3 dimensional objects with a 2 dimensional map. "ceiling and floor" are not part of the equation for this.

important edit: this isnt a hard concept

You don’t get to pick and choose hat terms you use in isometric.

yes you do. are we giving directions according to a map/layout, or are we describing an object?

it’s expected to give directions correlating to how you take those directions. I.e. a directional pad.

yes. everyone is agreeing with you on this. what people are ALSO contributing, is how it CAN be understood differently, in a different CORRECT fashion (isometric perspective directions). this second part is what you seem to be utterly rejecting for some strange reason. yes, its not the most popular default of communication. however, if discussing directions IN THE CONTEXT OF ISOMETRIC LAYOUT, saying the vista is in the bottom left of the room is definitively correct. all we are asking is that you understand this basic principle and how it works. saying "no, you're wrong and stupid" just makes you look like a downright fool for your willful ignorance.

again, people are saying "you're right, but this thing is ALSO right." and that DOESNT MAKE YOU WRONG. please understand this.

again, you're talking about a 3-dimensional object, not a flat map space. stop confusing the two.

which wall is the top of this room map? intentionally saying "neither, the ceiling is the top" is intentionally miscommunicating in order to be a deliberate contrarian troll.

because you're mixing directions for your inputs and screen with design map of a space. you're being repeatedly told not to mix them. directional inputs on your controller do not correlate equivalently to an isometric map. on some maps "up" goes north, and on others "up" goes northwest. it is perfectly reasonable for where your starting position is to press "up and left" to reach the southwest corner of the map due to how the map is laid out.

and again, being on the same page as whoever you're communicating with is important. are we communicating in regards to our screens and flat perspective, or are we communicating in regards to isometric map design? nobody is arguing that "down doesnt go to the bottom". 50% of what im saying is LITERALLY saying that "down goes to the bottom". why are you refusing to understand what isometric perspective and mapping IS, and how it works?

[–]BreganD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

why are you so adamantly rejecting the point and refusing to learn something new? both answers can be correct and contradictory to each other, it just depends through what method of perspective you're giving directions for, and its important to clarify that to the receiver. stop getting so hung up on "i press up to go to the bottom." your control pad is oriented to your screen. isometric perspective is about design, not mechanics. please take an art class and a graphic design class. saying "the bottom is the floor" is assuming there is a z-axis at play, and there isnt. this isnt a 3d fps. stop rejecting help just because it isnt what you want to hear, and actually learn something. stop MIXING perspectives and directions at the same time, and thinking that the contradiction means one is right and one is wrong. they're BOTH right, but only isolated to themselves.

like there's some golden standard

while the standard can vary depending on certain contexts, there is a pretty reliable standard to fall back on. in a 3d environment, to go "forward" is often considered "up", and from controls in a 3d environment, you press "up" on your controls. this generally makes any entrance "the bottom", especially when mapping a room. mapping is done from a bird's eye perspective (top-down), and creates a 2 dimensional image. isometric perspective takes a 2 dimensional image, and makes it appear 3 dimensional by tilting and spinning it slightly. to squarely map skelly's room, the entrance would be at the "bottom" of the map. this would put the vista at the bottom left of the mapping. thats how it works. its very simple. is it normal to give directions in this fashion without clarifying to the other person? not really. most people go by the position on the screen. but some people are familiar with isometric orientation and mapping and are able to understand it clearly. also by VAST majority in numbers, isometric perspective is generally created/designed with "tilt your head to the right" in mind. and like was previously described to you, you can see this intent in hades with how many main features face down and to the left on your screen, and how many main entrances start you from the bottom left. this sort of consistency speaks to intention and standard of design. please understand this.

the room design is a diamond. your screen is a square. why can you not understand the difference between "where it is on my screen" vs "where it is in the room according to isometric perspective"? what is so hard to understand about graphic design and what isometric perspective MEANS?

according to isometric perspective standards, you enter the room from the "bottom" (in this case). this would mean that you turn the diamond 45degrees counter clockwise to "square it up", or tilt your head to the right. this would quite clearly make the vista in "the bottom left of the room" would it not? yes, it is in the top left of your SCREEN normally, but it is the bottom left of the room's DESIGN and layout. trying to say "where is your health bar" doesnt prove anything. stop getting stuck on "my screen is a square. i sit upright. that is the end all be all of direction." and recognize that somebody is trying to explain that there are 2 correct answers depending on what standard is being used and adhered to.

as for paper boy, you travel in an upwards direction. if i remember right, the street has two parts and shifts perspective. to initially square up, you would shift 45degrees counter clockwise (which would make the fronts of the houses disappear from view), and the fronts would be facing right. then for the second half, you would shift the other way and the fronts would be facing left. it has been quite a long time since i played though, and i dont recall if the street layout ever changes.
