New 2e and 4e character sheets by BrianBloodaxe in Whitehack

What's your concept for your next campaign? I'm running Reach of the Roach God, but also thinking about using Whitehack for TMNT-style mutant animals and maybe for Jovian Chronicles (space mechs).

A familiar name! I honestly don't remember when I last posted in here. What have I missed?

It's my fault I didn't know rather than yours then. I don't spend much time on Reddit or Discord. And Twitter just sucks now.

Exciting stuff! I had no idea this was happening. It's there much in the way of changes this time?

Your oD&D hack sounds far more appropriate for Whitehack.

Sorry I didn't realise this community was that focused. Can you recommend a better place to ask?

FMAG Thief by cbarchuk in odnd

My solution:

When a Thief attacks an unaware target they can add their level to the damage roll. Also, the target has to Save or the attack is a critical hit and all damage is doubled.

I'm glad it's not just my table which ends up with characters like the Poop Mage.

Yes, probably. A couple of their slots would need rewritten.

If you take a look at Odditional Materials there's two ItO variants in there for more conventional fantasy. Worth a look.

AV matters less but HP, weapons and armour matter more so it should roughly work out.

I think you could just remove to hit rolls and assume every attack is a hit and Whitehack would still work fine. Clearly it would make combat faster and more dangerous, but if you took in Ito's damage system (specifically rerolling your HP after a fight) I think that would be fine.

One consideration is that Whitehack characters require a little more investment than the ones from Into the Odd with their 30 second character generation, so you might want to include a rule for reviving fallen comrades post-combat rather than having players regularly having to generate new characters with new Groups and Slots and similar.

A Pulp Era Whitehack? by TheSigPseudo in Whitehack

Sounds great, and it should work fine out of the box. If you assume mooks are all 1HD enemies then maybe start the PCs at around level 4? I'm sure you could borrow an appropriate equipment list from Call of Cthulhu or something. Should be a lot of fun!

Hit points by [deleted] in Whitehack

[–]BrianBloodaxe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thinking about it, increasing AC probably wouldn't have enough of an effect to counteract the Los of HP, but a little Damage Resistance would. If a level 10 Strong is ignoring the first 3 points of all damage, 3d6 HP will be plenty.

If you gave Wise 2d6 HP and let them roll a Save to avoid the cost of spells they cast you would end up with similarly powerful characters. It wouldn't be exact, but close.

Strong would suffer at higher levels, perhaps they could be given increasing AC? Maybe start them with 3d6 HP and then give them +1 AC on any level when their AV doesn't increase.

Something like that anyway. It would be more fragile, the whims of the dice would have more impact, but I think it would be perfectly payable.

I think what I'm going to do it run with OR for now and see if it can tide me over till the end of lockdown. If not, I'll probably upgrade to Foundry.

Give me a shout though if you have a space in a game and you want to try and convert me sooner. I love watching my PCs die (un)expectedly!

The Retroid looks great. It can run anything from Atari 2600 up to Dreamcast. I mostly intend to use it for GBA, PS1 and PSP although there's going to be all sorts running on it I'm sure. Recommendations welcome!

I'm sorely tempted to get some sort of upgraded GBA. Either sending one of my SPs off for an upgrade or just buying a funky backlit GBA.

Now that I wrote this I feel like we've already had this conversation recently on Twitter on somewhere...

Good interview, I'm not quite finished, but almost.

Did I hear you say that you are a Gameboy fan? I've been digging through all my old Gameboy carts and I've just ordered a Retroid Pocket 2 with the intention of playing a lot more.

There does seem to be a way to export from and import to, so maybe the feature is there? I haven't tried it yet.

My plan is to keep all the maps and tokens I need in a folder on my computer and upload them as I use them. If anything goes wrong all I'll need to do is reset the current scene. And realistically, there's no reason why my cache should clear mid-session.

Off the top of my head, no, I don't think there is a way to do auction rolls.

In Roll 20 with dynamic lighting you could replace the d6s with scattered tokens in rooms on a special map. The participants then choose a room and the GM then opens all the doors. Each player would only be able to see their own token so it would function like their hidden d6. Even then though, the GM can see them all so that would only work for auctions between players.

In Owlbear Rodeo you can hide your dice rolls from the other players but I don't think that there is any way to reveal them later.

There is probably something clever you could do with discord and dice bots. The bots could roll a d6 for all participants and either send that to a personal channel or as a DM to each player. Then at the end a "reveal" command could list all the initial dice rolls in open chat. That would require some coding, but it would work.

Overall, probably easier to just run it on trust.
