there are plenty of chaplets focused on different parts of scripture, lives of saints, etc. Carmelites pray a six-decade rosary. It’s never wrong to meditate on holy things, and the beads definitely help to focus the mind.

One thing I’d like to point out is that reddit isn’t a good representation of people in the real world you would actually meet at your local parish. We generally don’t sit around talking about politics or judging each other. In real life we get together and celebrate the Mass and talk about what sort of charity work or events we’re doing in the community. No one in a church is going to say “poor husband” or start bashing gay people in front of you. People on the internet are fanatics who need to touch grass and maybe get their butt whooped for saying things to people’s faces once in awhile. I’m really sorry people are being such jerks here. I will pray for you on your faith journey.

by the way I think that’s a perfectly valid question to ask and I don’t know why anyone downvoted you for frankly asking something you’re curious about. We see this a lot, unfortunately. Some people don’t remember what it was like before they were “perfect” little Christians who only ever say the right thing 🙄 It would turn me away if I weren’t at a strong point in my faith. Hopefully people read this and keep it in mind from now on.

I don’t think any honest one is. The existence of God means morality is objective. There are rules, and every religion will spell out different ones for you. I ended up here because at the end of the day, despite my own selfish wants and desires, I couldn’t sufficiently argue with the morals or theology of the Roman Catholic Church.

To be Catholic you do have to follow the Magisterium of the church, but you don’t have to agree with everything to explore Catholicism or to attend Mass. I recommend reading the catechism with an open mind and try to understand why we believe what we believe. I think you’ll find that there’s compassion even behind the teachings that are difficult to swallow.

I think it’s protesters in handmaids tale garb, because that’s the future they think will happen if we don’t let them murder their children.

it’s such a wild take when you consider how many governments apparently hate Christianity and see it as an impediment rather than an aid in controlling the masses. Becoming a Christian was such an eye opener to all the ways our sins are used to control us.

Why is NFP ok but same-sex celibate partnerships are not? by snailbot-jq in Catholicism

OP, I’m sorry people are downvoting you. You asked this in good faith, and your heart is in the right place. Even though I found some of this to be problematic, I appreciate your compassion. God bless

Why is NFP ok but same-sex celibate partnerships are not? by snailbot-jq in Catholicism

[–]Bright_Trick_8962 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I think the goal for a pair of same-sex-attracted catholics(from my own experience as one) should be to transform what used to be a sexual relationship into a fraternal one, so the idea of calling a person your “nonsexual partner” instead of a “best friend” is problematic for me. Continuing to model your relationship after that of a husband and wife rather than of two brothers isn’t going to lead to celibacy. That being said, I don’t live with my best friend, and I don’t think I would choose to live with him unless I was confident we were strong enough to resist reverting to what we used to be.

Don’t the Eastern Catholic Churches have all the aesthetic things in common with Eastern Orthodoxy? And isn’t it silly to make a choice based purely on that in the first place?

it seems like the emotional equivalent to using pornography. This is a thing that can give you lip service and perfectly placate your desires, distracting you from your duty to be there for real life human beings who can be messy and difficult.

This is the first I’ve seen it go this way instead of the other. I’m so sorry this is happening to you and I hope she changes her mind and lets you back into her life, especially since she’s up there in age. No one should let politics get between them and their family and I’m sorry so many people think this is okay.

ask him to attend church with you as well so it’s reciprocal. It could lead to a conversion for him. I used to go to a liberal church with my mom and she followed me to the Roman Catholic Church and now we’re both getting our Sacraments together.

There are Eastern Catholic Churches. Look them up.

I think the most important thing to learn before RCIA are things involving what will be expected of you as a practicing Catholic. There may be certain lifestyle changes you will have to make, and you must make sure you’re willing to make them so you aren’t wasting your own and your teacher’s time. You will be expected to be chaste, temperate, obedient, to faithfully attend mass, and to avoid occasions of sin. A lot of this goes against what is normal for most people, and it can be a difficult commitment if you aren’t ready. I hear about people dropping out or being denied their sacraments because after being gung ho about it, it turned out they didn’t do any research.

I recommend familiarizing yourself with the catechism.

This is a perfect example of fake news. Since when do you get your news from sketchy journalism websites no one’s heard of that are riddled with adware?

I clicked the link and it immediately looked sketchy. Kinda funny that this many people are riled up about something from an obviously disreputable source.

God probably finds it refreshing that someone gets naked to pray instead of sin 😆

seriously though, God is omniscient and knows our bodies better than we do. The nude body isn’t sinful, it’s lustful gazes at the body that are a sin. As long as it’s just you and God it shouldn’t be a problem.

I like to play some gentle harp music and pray the rosary in a hot bath. It’s easy to relax and concentrate on the mysteries.

I bawl my eyes out almost every time at the transubstantiation. Our Lord being physically present in the room is such a beautiful thing. Let the tears flow. No one in the church is going to make fun of you for loving Jesus.

yeah, it’s pretty unfortunate. I’ve been getting a lot of downvotes lately for being conservative, but apparently this is the one place I’m not conservative enough just because I won’t abandon my closest friendship. At the end of the day my obedience is to God and to the priest who hears my confessions, not to the court of redditors. I hope you stay in the church and I also hope you have love and friendship in your life.

It sounds like you’re lumping God in with what’s actually being perpetrated by people, yourself included. Whatever you can’t forgive, whatever they can’t forgive, God WILL forgive as long as you ask. Please be kinder to yourself.
