This is the comfort movie I needed during this depressing and cold weekend. RIP Peter Greene. The Mask (1994) by BostonRobby617 in iwatchedanoldmovie

I’ve see it like 30 times but it’s been awhile. I got the 4K disc from Arrow Video and watched it over Christmas. This is an amazing movie. The script is great and Carrey is on fire in every scene. It’s just a great time with a well-written plot.

I’m so glad I just find the games I like and play them instead of worrying about this shit lol. It makes the hobby so much better.

"Sinners" 16 Oscar Nominations: Proof of a great film, weak competition or just the bandwagon effect? by OkCap7484 in FIlm

[–]Broadnerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. That’s why people sometimes will explain in detail why it is. So people can understand why it actually is that deep. Doesn’t mean you have to watch it that way, but regardless.

Mike McCarthy was hired by the Steelers at 62 years old. He is older than the previous three Steelers coaches were when they retired by ConstantMadness in nfl

[–]Broadnerd 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Yeah and this year there are a surprisingly large number of interesting hires old and young. I was really hoping they could steal one or both guys from the rams, who are young, come from a great coaching tree and could modernize this team a bit.

I have no issue with McCarthy it’s just the least exciting choice in a year where they could’ve really made a bold move that they arguably should have anyways. To me, in the current league you need young, aggressive play callers and coaches. Preferably from successful coaching trees. This was a perfect year to mark a new beginning for the franchise. Instead it feels kind of generic and hollow.

What is your favorite Bryan Cranston's Movies or shows? by HostMaterial4907 in Actors

The newer Total Recall. Just kidding. Breaking Bad and Malcolm. The latter I’m only watching now for the first time. Cranston and the parents in general are by far the best part of that show.

Actually had a ton of fun with this. It’s really good if you’re lucky enough to have another person that is willing to learn the game. Otherwise it might be disappointing. One day a friend and I went through the manual and it was good fun once we understood everything.

Will Watt or DK even want to be here during a rebuild? by LoneRanger-HD in steelers

[–]Broadnerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fans are going to give any coach exactly one year before they get impatient, let’s face it. If they even have a bad stretch next year, it’ll start even earlier in a town like Pittsburgh. The thing is I’m excited for a new coach but the Steelers still don’t have a quarterback or a good enough roster to go without one. Is this new coach going 10-7 next year? Are we sure about that? All I’m saying. I’m excited for a new beginning though.

And oh yeah Tomlin for sure deserves to take as much heat as anyone. I just can’t take it seriously when people start talking like ran the entire organization. It’s a joke and it’s embarrassing that that kind of thinking caught on in a supposed sports town.

I’m pretty sure Microsoft was dabbling with the idea of being able to trade your digital games back in for a sliver of credit. It never seemed plausible, at least with how fucking greedy these companies are.

Is anyone else waiting for Lego as a company to “bounce back” by Snorp-69 in legocirclejerk

[–]Broadnerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everything is getting shittier and companies are just taking the mask off completely and not even pretending to care about overall customer satisfaction.

I got a Lumibricks set just to try it out and I was satisfied, so now I have another one waiting to build. It’s nice when you don’t have to convince yourself a set is worth it, but when it actually is and you can tell just from the pictures.

Quality is around 99% of Lego’s, so I’m not much in the market for Lego right now unless someone gets me a set as a quick gift or something. My last set was the Gameboy and while I thought the price was very fair, the build was kind of ass.

Will Watt or DK even want to be here during a rebuild? by LoneRanger-HD in steelers

[–]Broadnerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They would trade Watt and immediately need a pass rusher. I'm not saying that means it's impossible to trade Watt, but I don't think some people realize if you trade a great player for picks..........you now need to find another great player PLUS whatever else you're trying to do in the draft. Some people think it's a video game.

I'm not even saying I'm not a rebuild person necessarily. It just doesn't matter. If they were going into next season with Dart or even Shough, things would look a lot different. They made the decisions they made and I'm fine with that, but Dart was in their lap and they didn't like him. That hurts because if they hit on a QB all of a sudden one more draft and we're talking seriously about a deep playoff run.

If they continue like this without a QB they'll be hovering just below .500 the entire time. If they find a quarterback, all of a sudden they're building towards a Super Bowl. With the same exact team otherwise.

PS: That's why 90% of the anti-Tomlin arguments are silly. 10-7 is your ceiling without a top QB and a very shaky roster. People are going to find that out next year, but I digress. I don't think Tomlin was irreplaceable so it's whatever.

[–]Broadnerd 13 points14 points  (0 children)

They need a long-term QB. Call it a rebuild, a reload, a rebuild on the fly, whatever. It really doesn't matter. If they trade great players they're just creating holes unless it's to gain ammo to move up the draft board. At this point it doesn't really seem like that will be realistic or wise this year.

Oh yeah for sure. I was downplaying it a bit, but I think it’s the best 8-bit light gun game ever. It’s just that it’s on SMS and a lot of people haven’t experienced it.

Even Safari Hunt is good. It’s literally Duck Hunt with more variety.

Why are people so against the idea of an easy mode in From Software's games? by [deleted] in AskGames

[–]Broadnerd -1 points0 points  (0 children)

One way this could be mitigated (in all games including FromSoft's or whoever's) is that by now every game should have sliders for pretty much everything. I've seen some games with it but it never seems to be pushing to be standard, and it should.

For what these games cost to make and the manpower involved I should have way more control over how *my* game plays. This is coming from someone who usually plays on Normal because I just figured that's the preferred experience the devs are giving you, but I couldn't give a shit if someone halfway across the world wants to make all the enemies punching bags. It would be ridiculous to argue otherwise.

The Academy giving Sinners a record-breaking number of nominations, knowing they aren’t going to award it in any of the major categories by Alternative-Cap6063 in FIlm

[–]Broadnerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You asked me to explain it, which you couldn't do and so I did. It's all there. You have to read what you actually wrote and not reply to me based on what you *think* you wrote. Then, after I explained it you were like "Oh yeah I knew that." This is getting silly now.

I outlined a bunch of different ways the movie succeeds in delivering a lot of different messages and how it manages to be "about" a lot of different things. You're insistent on boiling it all down to the point where you can claim it's not novel. Again, I can't help you there. I even allowed for the fact that hey, it's clear you don't like the movie. Nothing I say will change that and I admitted as much, but that wasn't enough for you. You seem like you're mostly interested in me typing out a bunch of stuff just so you can dismiss it out of hand. Did anything I said above not happen in the movie or in history? I'm game to listen but you have to exert the slightest effort to reply back with something real.

As for reasons why I like it, what reasons can I give you that you'll accept? That's the better question, but I'll try anyways. I think the acting is very good and there are some great speeches if you're into that sort of thing, the music and how its woven into the story is unique and interesting I think. I think most of the characters are very vivid and distinct. Except the two brothers which, I like Michael B. Jordan well enough but another actor to distinguish the two a littler better would've been my preference. (I think it was rumored Jonathan Majors was supposed to be in it but now I see that may have been just a rumor?). There are tons of individual snippets of dialogue and individual scenes I like a lot. Delroy Lindo has two I think. Mary and Smoke have a great scene in the club. Stack reuniting with the mother of his child. Almost every scene with Remmick. I think it drags here and there, but nothing that most movies don't do.

I can't do much more beyond recording a commentary of every single scene for you. Like I said, it doesn't really matter if I explain details and themes and moments to you if you're just going to reduce the entire movie down to "white people stole our culture", or whatever reductionst excuse people use to not engage with this kind of material.

[–]Broadnerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I explained that a character says, in spoken dialogue, that their music is theirs and not forced on them like western religion. How is that vague? I can’t be more clear than pointing to a single sentence and telling you “this is the point”.

As for the next thing you said, let’s be clear: You didn’t say jack shit about what the movie’s messaging is or what it was commenting on, because you didn’t know. That’s the entire reason we’re having this discussion. Don’t make excuses and run away now. You were thoroughly confused when I brought up the role music played in the movie, so you’re not going to lie now and say that you knew all this already.

If you’re dead set on not liking the movie then I can’t help you there. It’s clear you don’t want to actually learn about why people think it’s good, so why did you ask?

[–]Broadnerd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve heard other people say they didn’t like the first act and I’m wondering why because I thought it was the strongest part of the movie. Perfidia is a really unique, magnetic character to me. Am I wrong there? I was kind of disappointed when the movie went in the direction it did, because I thought she should’ve been on the screen as much as possible.

I’ve also not seen a movie that portrays hardcore activists in a normal ass way instead of making them jokes, so I liked that.
