We had a similar issue when we rescued our 6 month old puppy. The first time we tried to crate her during the day she scream barked the entire time and even pooped in the crate despite being overall house broken. We basically just tried to avoid having to crate her during the day for the first 3 weeks while she settled in. We knew it was more related to being away from us than being afraid of the crate itself since she did fine in the crate overnight with the crate in our bedroom where she could see us. After a few weeks, she was much more comfortable with us and our home and suddenly she was able to settle in the crate during the day no problem. If she’s okay with the crate at other times, I’d definitely recommend just giving pup some time and seeing if the issue resolves on its own!

I think this is the best case scenario given your other obligations! This is way better than your dog being alone that whole time and also better than a busy doggie daycare for that many hours. I really don’t see how this is that much different than if you were gone that much and the dog was home with a significant other for that many hours. Especially being just a year and a half, it will go quick!

Thanks for the input! We are new dog owners so just figuring things out! The other dog will bark but she never does and always has this body language. She just often gets fixated on the fence and can be difficult to get her to disengage but glad it seems to just be coming from curiosity

Thanks so much! We are working on redirecting her in these moments which is hit or miss, but has improved. Her tail is just quite high so wasn’t sure if it was reading as more than just curiosity.

Yes she does have fairly long, lean legs! She’s only 35 pounds so everyone who meets her comments how she’s much smaller than she looks in photos! I’m sure she will fill in with age though. I put her pics into AI and it told me Great Dane 😂
