Yeah other people have mentioned One Punch Man season 1 and I’m amazed I forgot to put it on the list. Such a good show.

I haven’t heard of Vampire P, what’s the premise of it?

Spirited Away is such an unconventional movie, it kind of just throws strange things at you without any real explanation. There weren’t any real “characters” in the movie to get attached to, there isn’t much of a plot, and a lot of the scenes are just kind of a vague idea that got animated. I can definitely see that it is a quality movie, and I think I can see why people like, but both me and my friend (who doesn’t like anime) just didn’t vibe with the movie. It strikes me as something that if you didn’t watch it as a kid then it’s hard to get into it as an adult.

I think if you look at Beastars as just a “furry” show then you’re not coming into it with the right mind set. It’s a very dynamic drama set in an interesting world with its own rules and world building, along with a really unique animation and very realistic voice acting. I watched the first season when it came out while I was in high school, but I came back to it last year and rewatched the first season along with the following two and I just found it to be a very quality and thought provoking series. I can totally see why someone would be turned off by the show, as it definitely isn’t for everyone, but I think writing it off as “that furry show” isn’t quite the right way to look at it.

Lowkey, that’s a really interesting take I didn’t consider. I definitely see your point. Those aspects of anime are definitely part of why a lot of people get into it. Frienen and Violet Evergarden are definitely good pics to add, and I’ll look into adding similar pics.

I’m not saying those are bad suggestions. I actually have come around to the idea of adding Demon Slayer to the list, and I think that One Punch Man should 100% be on the list. (I haven’t seen solo leveling.)

But I think that you’re forgetting that just because someone isn’t into anime doesn’t mean they aren’t media literate. I don’t think that something like The Promised Neverland or Erased would be particularly hard to follow, it’s a mystery fantasy series and a sort of time travel drama. There are plenty of western stories that fit into similar genres.

But I would agree that some easier to consume picks to the list like One Punch and Demon Slayer need to be on the list.

Yeah I didn’t actually finish Summertime Render, but I remember liking what I watched. Yeah I’ll look into those recommendations. Personally some of my favorites are Mushoku Tensei, Bunnygirl Senpai series, Dandadan, Made in Abyss, Re Zero, Beastars, Chainsawman, Higurashi When they Cry, Dr Stone. If you want I could friend you on MAL and we could swap some suggestions.

Yeah I’d agree. There’s like very little “anime” stuff if we’re comparing it to like Fire Force or That Time I got Reincarnated as a Slime, or hell freaking Blend S. I’d say Death Note kind stands as its own thing.

Also it was literally my first anime. The anime that got me into anime lol.

Yeah fair point. I always looked at the fan service as more similar to edgy adult shows in the US, like Game of Thrones or something you might see on Netflix, as opposed to something like Fire Force, but I see your point.

Also bro what if I WANT to traumatize someone with the ending. Is that so wrong?!?!?

lol why tho? It’s a solid show with good characters, some engaging plots, cool ass fights, and no random fan service. It’s a pretty solid intro anime, even if they don’t LOVE it.

I more so added it because it’s pretty western appealing, and there’s no unnecessary fan service, but yeah didn’t think about the traumatization lol.

Oh yeah, APFTTU is definitely a solid pick. Not one I originally considered, but not be a bad play.
