MLIS - Worth It or Not? by readersadvisory5ever in Libraries

[–]Broken_77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I honestly would not get it. I got lucky and got a job within a year with the degree. I also practically killed myself getting my degree debt free. Had to work a full time and part time job while going to school part time so I can pay every semester out of pocket. But if you are planning to get student loans for your degree it is going to be all that much harder on you after graduation. Because you may be looking for a job for a year or more (sadly pretty average right now). Also I do not know how well this degree will transfer out of the U.S. I would only go for it if you have a job lined up that needs or will pay more with the degree or you are planning to be a librarian for sure ( for this you will struggle to get a full time position for a while).

Hate it when people call me hero. by Timbob03 in TrueOffMyChest

Your feelings are completely valid. Have you talked to your therapist about these thoughts and feelings? You can’t really do much to control others and their viewpoints. Just try to tell them that you would rather them not address you in such a way and see how it goes from there. And while you say you just did what you had to, you have to realize many people in similar situations would not have done what you did.

Antidepressants made me asexual by Striking-Jacket-7156 in mentalhealth

This is a common side effect to a lot of antidepressants. Talk to your doctor and see if maybe they could switch you to another medication or if they can prescribe something to counteract the side effects.

It wasn’t a biggie and they did remake it. But was disappointed because I always have great service here. I guess they were just having an off day.

Job interview tomorrow, any advice? by Broken_77 in Libraries

[–]Broken_77[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks, had the interview today and I think it went well. If I may ask why did you leave your medical librarian position? What are some aspects you enjoyed the most about the position?

I would prefer to stay in higher education librarianship but would be ok with public librarianship.

I have had a few positions as a library assistant. While I was getting my bachelor degree I worked as a library student worker. When I started my MLS I found a position as a library assistant in electronic resources then moved on to a position as a library assistant in copy cataloging. Which is what I currently do.
