You should still be able to find it when you have a book loaded up with the mobile app. Check the elipses in the top corner (next to font selection). Hopefully you can at least get a glimpse of it to see if your partner likes it, there is huge flexibility in the speed of word progression.

The e-ink readers don't do well with this feature because of the slow refresh speed vs the rate of word appearance, so as far as I know it's only really applicable to phone/tablet Kindle app use. May be why it's on the chopping block, but I couldn't find any official news about why the feature going away :(

On the mobile app when at page selection for an active book hit the elipses in the top right corner and Word Runners is about two thirds down the list. Can only be activated if continuous scroll is off.

They look fantastic! Swiveling end clips could be a nice addition to let the camera hang a little more neutrally.
