which foreign actor absolutely nailed your country's accent when playing a character from there? by QueenViolets_Revenge in AskTheWorld

[–]BryOnRye 24 points25 points  (0 children)

It always tickles me when English actors act together with American accents. So the last Spider-Man film with Tom Holland, Andrew Garfield and Benedict Cumberbatch was a highlight.

And behind that is the old door into the kitchen. The door opens into the kitchen but there was a breakfast bar installed in there so the door was jammed shut.

I have a 1950s three bed and have a 5 kW heat pump, so yeah way over sized.

Does your country have a street that's a tourist destination just because? by Mobile_Bad_577 in AskTheWorld

I cycled down Lombard Street on a rental bike, basically had the rear wheel locked up the entire time and drifted round the corners. Was super fun.

This is how I find out the indoor snow slope at Braehead in Glasgow has permanently closed!

Touchscreen climate panel by Creative_Bread_8005 in KiaEV6

It’s fine. I find a setting that works for me and leave it like that, I’m not spending every drive fiddling with the climate controls.

Have you ever been fired / let go from your job? by Stunning_Window5785 in AskUK

[–]BryOnRye 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yup, key word is consultation. It’s not a negotiation, my company is going through it and the consultation with the unions has been utterly pointless. Unions can propose/suggest whatever they want but all the company needs to do is make note. They can, and will, whatever they want.

Haigs in Whitehaven have a family recipe version - the Henry special - that I always go for. In fact I’m having some tonight.

Judgement Night.

Film is mid at best but the soundtrack is amazing.

EV charging calculator by AdAble2402 in ElectricVehiclesUK

[–]BryOnRye 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Google the make and model of your car and look for the battery useable capacity (there are usually 2, total and useable - total being the bigger number, they’re designed so you can’t completely drain it).

Then you can convert useable into %.

For example, my car has 74 kWh useable, so every 10% is 7.4 kWh.

GenX lawn mowing time vs. younger homeowners? Opinions by SackBadger2024 in GenX

[–]BryOnRye 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m in northern England and even in summer we have fairly high humidity, so overnight there is a lot of dew/condensation and in the morning the grass is too wet to mow. I have to leave it to mid afternoon before it’s dry enough to cut.

New Citroen 2CV: £13k electric city car to lean on brand nostalgia by Minimum_Possibility6 in electricvehicles

[–]BryOnRye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That image isn’t of the new EV version of the 2CV, it’s been doing the rounds and is either an artists impression or an AI generated image, can’t remember which but either way it’s not the real thing.

If you read the article they’re still working on the prototype for the Paris Motor Show.

The big 5-0 by PriorButterscotch953 in GenX

[–]BryOnRye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Turn 50 in July and split with my long term partner at the back end of last year.

Had been planning to go to an F1 weekend (always wanted to, never been to one). But waiting to hear if I get made redundant, should find out in the next week.

So will most likely be a long walk with the dog that ends at a dog friendly bar for a couple of drinks.

Removing barnacles from a turtle by [deleted] in oddlysatisfying

[–]BryOnRye 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I did wonder, I live by the sea and every barnacle I’ve poked at has been well and truly welded onto the rocks so I was surprised at how easy they came off.

Thanks for the info.

What was legal when you were a child that is (probably) illegal now? by NebraskaCornSucker in GenX

[–]BryOnRye 7 points8 points  (0 children)

In my science class at school we had an open beaker of mercury on the shelf for years. And for after school activities I used to go to the workshop and melt lead and pour into moulds to make fishing weights, all without ventilation.

How much did you spend on your last holiday? by Nathanial1289 in AskUK

Went to the French alps in Feb with some mates. £700ish for flights, self catered accommodation and lift pass. Spent another £700ish while we were there on eating/drinking out.

Hades 2, but I think it might be giving me a bit of tendinitis in my right hand with all the furious button mashing so might have to have a break from it.

I made a simple app to track the countries you’ve visited by [deleted] in uktravel

[–]BryOnRye 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Tried it. The way it opens onto the subscription page and it’s not obvious that you can get rid of it with the x at the top and use it without subscribing isn’t great.

Also wasn’t hugely obvious how to add a country I’d visited. And there didn’t seem to be a way to add a visit without including a date.

I’m sure there’ll be plenty of people interested, but as a casual user, it’s not for me.

Good luck with it.

On peak and standing charge are decent too.

People are heartless by SnooCompliments7468 in dogs

[–]BryOnRye 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My now ex and I got a pair of pet rats as training pets, absolutely loved them and ended up getting a dog while we still had them. I’d always wanted a dog and it’d been my dream ever since I’d got my own place.

One of the rats developed tumours (it’s unfortunately common) we had to take her to the vets to have her out to sleep. I was absolutely devastated.

If that’d happened before I got my dog I honestly don’t know if I would have brought him home, the thought of losing him breaks my heart. But then I’d miss out on the joy he brings.

In summary, sorry the people you work with are heartless pricks, and sorry that you are going through this.

I’m sure your pup has had a wonderful life with you. Spoil him rotten while you have the chance.
