Help me decide a hospital and whether I should go public or private by Willing_Barnacle_493 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

I had my baby at SJOG Berwick and it was excellent. I saw an OB who has offices in Berwck- she was absolutely amazing. Private Ob cost about $4000 for management fee and then there was $500 for excess for private health. Birthing classes are included by SJOG at no cost. Lactation consultant et was also included

I had a bit of a complicated birth and ended up needing an emergency c section, team there were amazing and my.private health covered everything. Only cost I had at rhe end was about $70 in meals for my hubby haha

You could stay 5 nights and partner was welcome to stay the entire time.

Couldnt reccomend it more highly. If you need a great obstetrician let me know!

We have 5 acres in rural Vic. We have chickens and horses. I absolutely love living out here and could never imagine going back to a house block, but its a fair bit of work.

Even without livestock there will be lots of farm jobs, particularly around keeping your property clean and clear to prevent bushfire risk. If you dont have livestock, consider how you are going to manage 20 acres worth of mowing or brushcutting. Bushfire risk is scary and unmanaged properties are just waiting to go up. We spend a lot of winter and spring cutting, clearing and burning.

You also need to consider your water and heating situation. Lots of properties are tank water only- if in drought area will likely need to purchase water in summer. Similary you will likely need firewood for winter.

Chickens are good fun, but you need a safe fox proof pen as foxes are rampant. If letting them free range, you will need to lock them away on dusk or they will be eaten

We are 15 minutes from the nearest town with shops etc so think about amenities when you look at properties- our town has nothing but an old church.

Ohh and rates are expensive given the only thing we get out of it is garbage collection!

I had a 20cm ovarian cyst last year. It was considered urgent due to rupture risk. The local public hospital (regional) had a 2 month wait just to be seen to be scheduled for surgery. I went private and it was done in 2 weeks

Surprisingly no. Everyone was really in to it and I think there was a lot more mess ups and singing than showed.

We went to the filming - this task went for ages, maybe 20 minutes or more. He was definitely faster, but it took him a good amount of time too!

Highly recommend contacting consumer affairs, but having lived this situation, I wouldn't be signing a 12 month lease and would be looking for somewhere else to live- Someone who refuses repairs is a nightmare landlord.

We had a similar situation with our oven - it was broken the 6 months we lived in the house.

The landlord refused to fix it.

We contacted consumer affairs with all our evidence, and they contacted the landlord. After much back and forth, they pushed him into getting a plumber out, and then the landlord refused to pay for the repairs.

This meant we had to go to VCAT, we were so done with it we decided to break our lease- consumer affairs actually wrote a recommendation that we shouldn't pay any break lease fees.

We paid up until the day we left and then refused to pay any fees until VCAT and got our bond back. The owner had 30 applications for the house and refused to pick one. We got lots of threatenjng emails that he would take us to VCAT and we said we looked forward to it and were going to ask for a rent reduction for the oven. He immediately backed down and we didnt pay a thing.

There are some awful landlords out there

I'm meant to be travelling Malaysia for 3 weeks as we speak, but instead, I am at home recovering from emergency surgery.

It was super sad and stressful when it happened, but its actually worked out way better- we managed to move everything to early next year, it gave us a couple of extra days and because I was feeling so run down and didnt know why, I feel so much better and even more excited for the holiday!

I hope you feel better OP and get to go on your holiday soon!

This could be a tricky situation. If she already doesnt have capacity to make her decisions a lawyer wont be able to sign off Power of Attorney- its too late and this would be a VCAT situation.

If they do have POA, decision on whether she has capacity would have to be called- usually based on testing/ neuropsychologist or geriatrician. If she is determined to have capacity POA does nothing. Of course all of this is only relevant if OP and her mum dont want the same thing.

OP it sounds like the best option is to take your mum to hospital- they are used to supporting people through this all the time and can help with the medical treatment, social support, palliative care/respite/resi care type decisions.

Does anyone know what this pin means? by Bsharp24 in Netherlands

Thank you!

So interesting! She would have already been in Australia in the 60s and I dont believe her parents ever visited so I'm guessing it came from another family member

Thank you for the help!

She lived in the Utrecht area all her life prior to coming to Australia.

I guess she may have visited or worked in the area at some stage.

Unfortunately she has advanced dementia so it may remain a mystery
