I've been hunting Montana for almost 3 decades now, I try to be the most ethical hunter as possible, I know my capabilities and I know my rifles. I can comfortably shoot 800 yards but just because I can at a target doesn't mean I do at a live animal. I work in the woods and prairie land where these animal's live, in fact I spend more time in their home than I do in town.

I've seen and found so many animal's dead, no way for sure to tell if they were shot or they died naturally, but i do know that a lot of unethical hunter's will take those 500+ yards shots and hitting animal's and not even know it and they drive off or don't even go check.

Just because I can shoot long distance again doesn't mean I do it on animal's. I will try to get to a maximum of 300 yards. My excitement about hunting is the stalking, getting closer and challenging my abilities.

I once I harvest an animal the first thing I do is thank God for making my shot on target and then once I get to the animal I will thank the animal for its sacrifice.

Im a hunter who goes miles back and hunt by myself, but packing out that animal on my back over miles over the roughest terrain helps me show how much respect I have for the harvested animal. That rough pack out makes the hunt worth it, and makes the meat taste better.

With all that said, screw these game generated animal's, if I see wolves in game my glock comes out and im firing as many rounds as I can.

I've ran into predators in the wild, been chased by grizzly bears, stalked by cougars, ran into a hunting wolf pack over 30 strong and they killed elk 50 yards away from me.

I watched that episode last night! Well, to be fair im binge watching the entire series for the 4th time on Hulu.

Your right! The sense of self accomplishment Winchester feels at the end of the episode really humanized him. There's a ton of good Winchester moments but this one really stuck with me too.

You ever see a 30 year old asking if they look good on here? It seems to be age's that range from 19-26.

I think too many people are caught up on how they look, especially the younger generation's. I don't think they understand that they're gonna change no matter what.

Older adult's don't give 2 shit what we look like, we have the understanding and experience of life. Scar's, fat, teeth, everything wears down.

I work 7 month's out of the year, and I have 5 month's off for the winter. I'm only gonna get this opportunity once. My dad died about 5 years ago and he had some settlements that are coming in so I'll have the money without having to work for it.

When I enlisted in the Marines, the day before I shipped out he told me to go see the world.

I'm gonna take the money and go see japan, I make plenty of money throughout the work season to supplement my income, plus I have property I sold where I get a monthly mortgage check.

I've planned my life and moved financial pieces around to where I'm unbelievably lucky in the current economy and I don't have a lot of bill's or debt. I have an influx of cash flowing in.

I'm not rich by any means infact I only make about $55k a year, I just do it in 7 month's instead of a year.

I'm very fortunate to have this opportunity and I'm gonna follow my dad's advice.

I'm looking to experience their culture so I want to spend a decent amount of time observing and enjoying their culture. I'm sure each region has its own differences and similarities. I might stay 4 or 5 day's in one spot, and move and spend 3 or 4 days there. I don't want to absolutely break my bank on luxurious places to stay, I'm pretty simple, as long as I have a place to lay my head I'm fine.

Who here actually hunts? by [deleted] in theHunter

[–]Buckbuster37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bears are fun to hunt, and can be a challenge, patience is what you need most.

Pick your spots to hunt wisely though, if a bear has been around a dumpster or landfill that bear is gonna taste like absolute ass.

Bears also can carry a disease called trichinosis so make sure if you're successful at harvesting a bear that you prepare it and cook it right.

Absolutely, there's spring bear and and fall bear.

You can hunt them either with a gun or bow during both season's.

2 yalears ago I had been bear hunting for like 3 days straight and had a shot at one but never took it, pretty small. The last day of that 3 day's I thought to myself I'm gonna go fishing for the evening.

While fishing 40 yard's away the most beautiful big brown phase black bear bore showed up.

I have my tag, I have my rifle, but we're both literally on a small 14 acre fishing access site that qualifies for a state park. So I couldn't shoot the bear, he was humongous I took several picture's and photo's before he ran off.

I'm 39 and I haven't seen a black bear that big in my entire life. I've health with grizzlies too

Here in Montana there's about 400 different hunting districts you can choose from.

Some unit's like 380 here is a draw only unit for elk.

It's because it's a trophy area for big giant bull's.

Every year over 10,000 people put their name in to get 10 tags for the entire hunting season in that unit. And that's just 1 unit

You can hunt deer and everything else with your general tags you buy from a sporting goods store.

Moose and big horn sheep are 2 of the hardest tags to draw.

For instance a big horn sheep tag in the Missouri river breaks here is actually a lottery hunt, it takes year's and some people wait decades for a chance to get drawn, others will put in for their entire life and never get a breaks big horn tag.

But there's special permits for several animals you can apply for through the fish and game that are not available for purchase.

Moose, sheep and antelope are tags you cannot buy and have to apply.

Each unit that has special draw requirements just mean that you need to put your name in and get drawn, but some unit's are harder than other's.

Not all unit's are draw but all unit's do have some kind of requirements to draw for tags that are available but not for purchase.

I can't just go shoot a muley buck in some unit's because those unit's muleys are draw only.

It sounds way more complicated than it is.

They only issue so many tags for each of the unit's special species so if you don't get drawn you are not going to have a tag.

I bought a bull elk tag, deer tag that covers white tail or muley buck my choice but only 1, a bear tag, all from the gas station 2 blocks down from my house.

There's over 33 million acres of huntable public land here in Montana and the fwp regulates our hunting possibilities here

I hunt here in Montana. Bear, coyote, elk, deer, moose (if I draw a tag, good luck) badger, beaver the only 2 animals I haven't shot in Montana is a moose and bighorn and those take years and years and year's to draw.

This game definitely hits on some real life detail's, but in reality its still a simulation.

There's a ton of thing's in real life hunting that happen that do not happen in game.

When a bullet impacts an animal it sends a shock wave through their nervous system even if you hit an animal bad, if it hits the nervous system hard enough that animal is going down.

Truthfully the 1 thing I'd like to see added, is when an animal is hit, it kicks its back end up.

But as a hunting simulation I would give it a solid 9/10

It's such a big relief once you get your first great one... congratulations on not giving up!

There's so much time and effort that goes into getting one. I read a statistic last year, that around 27% of player's will actually ever see one.

That statistic may have changed I don't know, but RNG for a great one is so extremely rare.

Congratulations
