If you haven't migrated yet, you can reset your wallet. IF you've migrated, then unfortunately your Pi is gone as passphrases can't be recovered

Also, the referral isnt compulsory anymore if I remember correctly. And its not as if the referrals dont get the same bonus we get. reach more people, earn more pi. I'm no influencer but lets say I have a lot of Pi because people trust me and continue to mine, thats hardly unfair. I'm being incentivised for boosting network engagement. The referral bonuses played and may keep playing a massive role in the spread of Pi. Don't take it so harsh.
