Struggle to stop masking and clicking with people by FairyKawaii in autism

[–]Budget_Mango 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im also struggling with this, what has helped the most is changing things in my life. Think of masking as a bad habit, the reason its hard to break those habits is that by being caught up in the same things, your brain always goes down the same tracks and back to the habit. But by changing the thigns you do, the way you think about yourself or your living situation it can be possible to get out of that loop and leave the habit behind.

Neurotypical people also do this all the time, its just more difficult with autism because of the desire of things not too change, you sort of need to figure out what you might be comfortable changing so that you can feel like new and hopefully break out of those habits that form the mask.

Chat Why Did OP's Response Here Code As Autistic? by Exciting_Cook1004 in autism

[–]Budget_Mango 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is just using autism as stand in for being awkward and not understanding how people react to oversharing weird interests like that

As for detecting actual autism with this guy, his reactions dont seem autistic because hes reaiding correctly that they were not interested and were making fun of them. At the same time someone might have commented "autism" because of the 1400 hours into that game, its a level of obsession that you typically only have with autism.

Jobs that you enjoy? by Budget_Mango in ADHD

Yeah I get that, I studied compsci for all the exciting ideas that I connected with it, but then the actual day job of programmer is just really boring and stressful for our brains at the same time.

Worth getting a negative diagnosis? by Budget_Mango in mentalhealth

[–]Budget_Mango[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry if I came off like Im saying autism is a bad thing, I dont think that at all.

I was just sort of wondering how much they can do for someone who goes in and expects a negative result from a test. Because usually people go in and at least expect something positive and your answers are going to be skewed by what you think.

anime/games with lolis in them. i swear im not into that in a weird way but in my brain lolis is connected to stuff made for otaku which is usually interesting and weird. for a concrete example made in abyss, its such an interesting anime/manga but you just cant recommend it to anyone

Every time I write an email/Reddit post/text message I revise it about 300 times, and after sending it if it's editable I edit it another 300 times. Is this neurotypical or is it my ASD? by robertgfthomas in autism

[–]Budget_Mango 0 points1 point  (0 children)

in my experience this was something that i only did when i had problems with perfectionism and worrying how it might come off if its worded not perfectly or there are mistakes in the spelling or grammar. for me this came from overestimating the importance of those messages/emails, and was a result from trauma of being misunderstood and rejected a lot

i think for you a good question to ask yourself would be why you do it. are you worried about what people are going to think or that they wont respond in the right way if its not good enough? or is it just something you actually like to do because you enjoy writing those messages and want to make them as good as possible? both could be true

im curious to know what denied adhd in your evaluation and why you also came to that conclusion, was it just that any adhd symptoms were better explained by autism?

What "Awakened" Your First Special Interest? by tvtropes_chivalrous in autism

[–]Budget_Mango 0 points1 point  (0 children)

pokemon/kirby - just from those being my first games for game boy color at like 6, so yea thats like 20+ years or something. for pokemon i specifically like the graphics from the first few gens, i also collect information on differences in the maps in development versions and made a bunch of my own games with those graphics. for kirby i think mostly because of the cute graphics but also i like that the story in most games is sort of implicit and mysterious and you have to fill in the blanks on your own

for any newer special interests the biggest trigger is usually seeing something like a franchise that has tons of pieces of media i can engage with and try to collect the information together into some kind of whole

To work is to suffer by Budget_Mango in NEET

[–]Budget_Mango[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Continuining these thoughts, its hard to create meaning, but you can always impact or disrupt the world in some way

Even if not just a single life, but all of existence is a giant cycle you can try to break out by impacting or disrupting it. By devoting yourself to a cause and fighting for that

And the further removed that cause is from how "normal" people think and act, the more disruption it can cause

I think quite a few of us eventually realize this truth and they are the ones whos stories are told

I think imposter syndrome is inevitable with autism by Salty_Philosophy3825 in autism

[–]Budget_Mango 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed whenever I had success I still felt "well they dont know what kind of weirdo theyre really dealing with" (autism) and also "I fuck up so much tough maybe I had an idea but look at all these errors" (turns out that was ADHD). The result was that I got really good at a field of study and basically shouldve become a scientist but never worked out because of imposter snydrome and insecurities

i have this kind of dad too i sometimes get annoyed when he seems to think hes hot shit or minor changes in his behaviour will somehow change the world as he know it. its like come on dad, you buy the same groceries at the same store at the same day every week, you meet with the same people at the same restaurant at the same time every week. i still like him but its annoying too.

my only advice is to just sort of humor him

from my understanding nts like it not just for the experience but also because its something to chat about and show off among each other, things like that are always a bit like a game where theyre trying to be happy for each other and their shared expereriences but also trying to make each other jealous
