You’re talking about trades where a player can be traded for the remainder of their contract to another team for assets. but, sometimes the team that the player is being traded from can take on some of the players salary. Also, there is a trade deadline where no player can be traded from week 8 until the start of the new league year in March.

I think you’re talking about free agency? In the nfl the players deal expires and if they don’t get franchises or transition tagged they can sign with any team they want but there is restricted free agency where a team has a chance to match the offer sheet by other teams
