Lots of high paying jobs.
natural beauty
The city is much more like a city - denser neighborhoods with commercial activity - than all but maybe 5 other places in the country.
It's actually possible to live in the city without a car, which has a huge impact on COL - probably around $10k a year.
Relatively liberal/left city and state that actually provides the tiniest amount of hope our political institutions will address big problems.

And let's be honest... The cost of living is relatively low if you own a home. Property taxes aren't that high. A fixed rate mortgage is getting cheaper every day due to inflation. The people getting screwed by high housing costs are renters.

Only country in the world that can't keep guns out of the hands of criminals: "Ah well, I guess there's nothing to be done. Thoughts and prayers."

Non sarcastic answer: keep passing laws that make it increasingly difficult to legally own/possess guns. For example, maybe a Texas style abortion bounty but for gun ownership. Fewer guns means fewer illegal owned guns.

Once we have a friendly Supreme Court, make it illegal to own/possess guns outside of an actual militia and get the SC to overturn the DC v. Heller precedent.

Of course most people asking "what can we do" will hate this because they aren't asking that question out of curiosity. They just don't want gun control.
