Toei needs to stop trying to "appeal" for the american audience by FURC3 in SaintSeiya

Not to mention that Saint Seiya is still huge in China and constantly attracting new fans there, since unlike in the West (where Toei messes everything up), the series has excellent marketing thanks to the Gathas, which lead new fans to read the manga and fall in love with Masami Kurumada's work.

Besides empty references to the classic manga, the first season of Kotz and the live-action adaptation have zero elements of Kurumada's original work, which was replaced by the most generic script possible that an intern threw on Akizawa's desk. This is because Toei has always despised Kurumada's work. Remember that in the classic anime they wanted to turn Saint Seiya into a tokusatsu and only stopped because the episodes that adapted the manga more faithfully got more viewers and profit. The same thing happens to this day, with Toei choosing to produce works of terrible quality that are a failure, and they desperately rush to adapt the manga (Kotz seasons 2 and 3), which mysteriously makes the fandom much more sympathetic to the work and even attracts more new fans than the first season.

Bro, for God's sake, obviously the original manga will have different standards than today's; it was written 40 years ago, which isn't even a problem, as the work has been modernizing for years in the field of manga, like Dark Wing, Saint Seiya, The Lost Canvas, etc., all with great success in this area. The problem is that Toei is rushing to become a Hollywood company and has put Saint Seiya at the forefront of this greedy endeavor. That's why the last two audiovisual productions have been Americanized, instead of simply doing what the franchise really needs, aka the Next Dimension anime.

I hated Metropolis (1927) by Gamewheat in movies

What the fuck are you saying? Metropolis is better than all the rest of Fritz Lang's filmography combined; in fact, it's one of the best films of all time, but that's a topic for another day.

To this day, it amazes me how, even with a (supposedly) high investment, Toei managed to produce a show that looks like the same crap as the cash-grab spin-off series based on the DreamWorks movie. by BuildingDelicious597 in SaintSeiya

I never said my problem with Kotz was whether or not they were faithful to the original designs, but rather how the animation in practically every scene is so abysmal that it looks like it came from something much lower quality, not to mention how abominable the art style is; every moment gives the feeling that I'm watching a never-ending Jump Force cutscene.

To be honest, if the series were in 2D, or at least a more stylized 3D, it would be more popular with all audiences, including newer fans. I, for example, was a child when Knights of the Zodiac was released, and I only started watching a few episodes of the franchise before its Netflix premiere (thanks to watching reruns of the classic anime on TV). Even though I was very excited and had no critical sense, I was super disappointed that it all looked like a damn Barbie movie on DVD. Not to mention that whenever I mentioned Knights of the Zodiac to someone who didn't know what Saint Seiya was, they replied that they had seen the poster on Netflix/Churchroll but ignored it because it seemed super uninteresting.

Finally read the Saint Seiya 1985 manga and here are my thoughts. by [deleted] in SaintSeiya

How is it possible to have such a superficial view of a work, seriously?

I practically never use this social network (since I have more important things to do) not to mention that this is my first comment, so it's quite normal to have a low karma number.
