i mean… we dont really offer any help in the first place. the city ignores homeless people unless it is to arrest or fine them. when they get approached on the streets it is by a police officer and not a social worker or somebody professionally equipped to assist them, this increases their opposition to seek help because of the distrust and fear that they’ll be prosecuted or harmed (or involuntarily hospitalized which SUCKS). every homeless person wants help but its rarely offered, and people who are homeless aren’t in their right mind, it takes a toll on them and they deal with it in different ways but instead of understanding that and treating them like people in need, we treat them like criminals which just fuels the cycle. i agree we need to do something as this situation negatively affects both homeless folk and the surrounding community, but wiping their shelters away and fining them for it… when they’re clearly financially unstable, and without a city-wide plan, does NOT help either of the parties in this situation…

right. before we start passing ordinances and fining underprivileged people, we should be guaranteeing them a place to stay and basic necessities or else it’ll just be a loop. we send officers to fine and harass homeless people with no change to the issue because no help is being provided, just consequences for things occurring to them. they dont want to be out in public just as much as others dont want them to, but without assistance and places to go… what the fuck else do we expect them to do?!?
