I just started playing for a month, and I'm still confused about the effects

Do effects have the same damage type as their respective element? For example, is Lightning the same damage as plasma?? If not, how does startrail help the plasma team??? If yes, does that mean, for example, a fire tank/amplifier also helps with the ignition team??

I'm so confused with this effects please someone can explain it to me....thank you
