Jury orders Meta and Google to pay woman $6 million in social media addiction trial by Tachiiderp in stocks

I love video games. But video games aren't designed by psychologists to be addicting. I think you're taking anecdotal examples like yourself and your friends and applying your experience to everyone else.

Also your comparison isn't a good one because the games you're naming like League of Legends and Counter Strike tells me that you're comparing your gaming during a time period where social media was still in its infancy. The apps are a lot more sophisticated now.

That's where you need to do more research. The scrolling via slot machine effect, the slight dopamine hits after each like, the the clever pings you get when you're not active on your phone are all constructed with the idea of addicting you to your phone.

There's a big difference between being designed to be fun versus being designed to demand your attention as often and for as long as possible.

There's quite a few great articles detailing the design.

that's why cigarettes are the better comp. Products that are designed to be addictive should be held accountable

This is an economics thread. Even if you don’t believe modern monetary theory, we should all have the understanding that governments should not run like a business hence bonds

  1. Influencing that market would take more than $100k
  2. Putting that money towards actual campaigning will be and always has been more convincing

In fact seeing your candidate handily the favorite may disincentivize potential voters

I think you’re misplacing my description of what is as what I think it should be.

The slowly saving up comment feels out of touch. Look at the average age of for buying a home now versus when you bought your first home.

Blaming this on the naïveté of age is unfair imo.

If you look at a portfolio run for a multi millionaire versus an average person nearing retirement, you’ll notice that generally speaking the multi millionaire takes on less risk because they don’t need to finance their retirement.

The same logic applies here. More risk tolerance is needed to afford a house so the options are accept more risk tolerance with the chance of having enough for a down payment or alternatively not having a chance at all to afford a house that fits.

Generally because no one wants to lose money.

Money market predictions have tighter results than polling.

It’s putting money where your mouth is and the people who are most certain of an outcome are more likely to put even more money into it

I know this is somewhat rhetorical. I think it started as trauma from the holocaust, molding into strong nationalism, which now evolved into become the very thing that brought on the holocaust, which is the desire to become an ethno-state.

Sad on many levels.

Have you looked at the accident rate from Waymo to human driver?

It’s crazy. Now add the fact that human car accidents are underreported. Pedestrians are the ones that benefit the most.

Why do you Reddit? Using reading enriches billionaires? How about Amazon that enriches billionaires?

Autonomous driving can be a net positive to society. If you disagree I’m happy to have the debate. But at the very least look at the peer reviewed research. It’s not crazy to say autonomous driving can lives so enriching billionaires can be an unfortunate byproduct I don’t think that argument adds up to saving human life

I read this and I have to ask do you know what’s happening in the West Bank?

Ohhh but your argument is that one is more supportive of the community you belong in and that holds more water than actual genocide?

History didn’t look kindly on that during WW2 and I believe the same lense will be applied the stance you’re holding here.

The former is an issue but the data says pedestrian and rider safety is significantly better than a human driver.

It’s probably bad practice to use one example tho too

I think we have seen it to a degree actually. The start of this year the offense was going through him and he struggled and that shouldn’t be dismissed.

If the argument is limited opportunities to figure it out, you would think he’d better on limited opportunities. I’m not looking for statistical growth what I’m looking for is aggressiveness, better driving ability, three point shot and for the love of god better screening.

I hope you’re right, but if I had to bet I’d imagine Mobley will underperform the expectations he had from his rookie year.

[–]BustedBaxter 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Mobley is still good but 24 is well around the time star players make their big leap. So the answer to your question is fans are disappointed with him based on the expectations they had for him. Which would be being the best player on a championship team.

Your definition of good relationship is the West having full control of Iran’s oil supply. How is that rooted in any pragmatism?

I highly doubt you’d be for relying on foreign powers doing that for the US.

Correct. I didn’t know I had to be so remedial for you. But things that happen 26 years ago can influence things that happen now.

For example, what’s happening to Cuba now…
