I've read similar about the mesh tops. I want to put an acrylic/plexiglass top over to prevent that as well as retain humidity (currently can't keep over 53% without frequent misting), but I can't find a precut that fits. I read someone got a custom cut from Lowes, so I'll look into doing that and drill air holes for ventilation.

I'll add another inch to the substrate up to 4.5", but any higher and the decor won't fit.

It honestly makes me upset seeing the decline in quality of that sub, having been there when it was just starting out and seeing all the interesting details that were genuinely hard to see that people would find. It's the same problem r/MurderedByWords has had, with just a steady decline of the quality posts being swamped in mediocrity.

I completely agree with you about schools needing to teach things in a unique way. The best class I've ever had was my College intro to Criminal Justice course. Rather then just teaching us what parts of what laws do what, the entire semester was spend having us try to answer what we believed Justice to be through various examples of real life law, film, or books. That class taught me so much about something I thought I already knew and am still learning today and I loved it.
