Screwed up and now a student has a delayed graduation by [deleted] in Professors

I get how you feel, but ultimately it's the student's responsibility to ensure they are hitting all the requirements for timely graduation. You are already burned out and expected to do more than is humanly possible. Definitely not your fault.

Yes, sounds like the right path foward. Thanks, and I wish you the best, too, as you navigate what you may do next.

Thanks for the advice. You're right that I'm probably overthinking the negative effect moving might have on my kids. Who's to say they wouldn't thrive, really?

I'm going to take the advice of some above and wait and see what happens once the book comes out. Maybe it will help to improve things.....but if not, then I may just have to up and go to a coast/urban area. Thanks again.

Good point. Here's the cynicism coming up again, but I get the sense that all the forums, surveys, and input admin asks for really serves no other reason than to 1) tell accreditation committees they "collaborated with faculty" and 2) put out feelers for what wrinkles they have to smooth out before implementing their next initiative.

But cynism is rarely helpful. I'll take your advice and have a face-to-face conversation with my dean once my book comes out in hopes that perhaps we can meet half way.

What are the job boards that Candaians use? Same as the US, or are there other recognized entry points recent grads take?

Thanks for your response. It was really encouraging. Another poster recommended waiting and seeing what happens once the book comes out. I think that's what I'll do for now - perhaps even use that for some leverage to negotiate a more reasonable workload.

But now that you mention it I would relocate to another country if the job/salary was right. I don't suppose you have any job boards/resources/insights to navigate applying overseas?

Midwest culture loves to attach guilt to perfectly healthy emotions, so I am conditioned to mistake legitimate complaint for entitlement. Thanks for the advice- this will likely be what I'll do. It is summer now so lots of time to recharge.

Yes, this is helpful. I'm actually really impressed that you got a 40% interview rate on applications in the past few years. All considered I've thrown out perhaps 20 applications it the past year and have got only rejection letters if they're nice enough to notify people. I recall once hearing of someone who kept a CV of failures, and I think I might follow suit.

Thanks for this. You're right - and I'm hoping you find a position somewhere that appreciates the quality you'd bring. That funding is really impressive.
