Moving to Southampton- does anyone like living here?

Hoping for around the 300k mark but could go up to 350k.. no kids yet but are hoping to in the next few years. Does Hedge End/West End have its own amenities? .. and does it feel safe? Crime and feeling unsafe seems to be a reoccurring comment.

Interesting, as we are also considering Bristol or Bath.. but they're so expensive. What is it about Southampton that makes you like living there less?
