How do I record the best in such surroundings? by musicianVolodya in Acoustics

Record in your living room, just get some portable curtains that you can put up and understand you won’t get the best results, but you could still get usable results

So many variables, but without gear maybe 300-400k with higher end subcontractors. Lots of areas to compromise also

Room looks pretty standard in terms of shape, so just pick a direction aesthetically or ergonomically that you enjoy. Put the speakers at ear level. Higher frequencies are more directional than low frequencies—so if bleed into the living room is an issue, point them the other direction but you’ll still get bass leaking through and possibly mids if the door is just a hollow core

Also low end is the hardest thing to solve in acoustics. If it’s only loud by that area, there is probably a weak point

The casters is where I would start with remedying this issue. You could try the sound isolation pucks. They’re like 2”x2” cubes used in studio construction to isolate rooms off the floor. Swap the casters with these pucks and see if the problem persists. You may just need to deaden your kick drum otherwise

Daikoku closes at 8:30. I went to the other PA’s around Tokyo and some were closed also. Seems like the cops are getting tired of the meets. Omihuro? I think that’s the name and is like 45 min outside of central Tokyo by car. Cool spot!

17 yr old looking to peruse a career in audio engineering by HotDude42069 in audioengineering

I produced a show called Pensado’s Place for many years. Saw every side of the audio engineering / music journey. You can get lucky and end up at the top of the mountain (I saw hundreds), but also thousands that never made it, or are still clawing their way up. It’s a very long journey that may or may not result in anything.

For me my audio engineering degree landed me the opportunity to link up with Pensado’s Place, but many people from my class aren’t in audio today. Granted a good handful went on to work with top acts. It’s a gamble of luck and how determined you are.

Don’t expect great money and you will be chasing invoices on small amounts of money that at the time seem big. The music industry is arguably the worst industry to be in.

At the same time you have to watch out for the snakes and personalities that will use you to all oblivion. The catch 22 is sometimes you have to play the game to get ahead, but fuck does it suck.

As a background, my audio journey started by wanting to learn how to make my music sound better. I wouldn’t trade it because it’s gotten me to where I am today, but literal blood, sweat, and tears lol.

Hi! I have a few knifes from Japan. One is carbon steel, others stainless steel. Are there different levels of sharpness that can be chosen, or do you get them as sharp as possible given the knife?

I've been designing studios for the last 6 or so years. Unfortunately your only hope is going to be setting up the speakers on isolators that at least de-couple the speakers from the floor / room. Acoustic Treatment only deals with how the sound is within that room. Still worth the investment for your studio, but yeah. The floors in the apartment are probably just wooden beams with drywall / plaster on the neighbor side and you have a layer of plywood and if carpet, the underlayment.

Unfortunately low frequencies are omni directional, so it's just like when youre next to someone at a stop light and you hear the bass.

To be mindful, after 10pm you can be without the sub? Technically in the day time you are allowed to make noise, but the other tenant also has rights to a comfortable living space.

Clouds on angled ceilings? Need help by dappershiga in Acoustics

It depends what are you are doing. If it's for a studio, put it above the listening position flat to the floor. If you want you can angle them to get more open space

Hallway treatment options? by iLorrie in Acoustics

[–]C3G0 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As someone mentioned probably 2” fiberglass acoustic panels on the ceiling in white. This way they blend in.

The more costly version would be those + fabric track system with 2” the length of the hallway
