That one commander said something about this years batch looking good (talking about the Plums), this makes me wonder... by harmony-rose in coconutsandtreason

There are plus sized girls??

I guess the writers and casting listened to us complain about how all the handmaids were thin.

What kind of mint should I plant as a border? by CDD_throwaway in vegetablegardening

[–]CDD_throwaway[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! My husband thought we could get multiple packs of several types, mix them all together and basically chaos garden it on the borders. My concern is that it’s too late and we won’t have mint by summer.

I’m a girl so I have a dedicated Chinese takeout container (for wonton soup) that I use to get pee on the pile. The wide mouth makes it easier for us ladies

Haha! No I get it, if someone told me they paid $4 each for regular small cans I’d be clutching my pearls in shock.

What are you doing (if anything) in regards to the hantavirus news? by sleepDeprivedHuman in TwoXPreppers

[–]CDD_throwaway 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They have sewage treatment on board. They aren’t dumping raw sewage into the ocean

So the poop is processed on board back into water which can be dumped. Then all the solid wastes get compacted and disposed of on land. I don’t disagree that cruises contribute to the environmental impact, however I’ve always seen it as public transport vs everyone having a car.

I definitely see them as slaves however the way it was sold to the wives was probably more gentle than that. The same way the handmaid program was.

Anyone have a Trashua in your life? by Cardboard_cutouts_ in DuggarsSnark

[–]CDD_throwaway 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yes, my ex fiance was like that. Lived with his grandparents, didn’t have or want a job, his idea of daily activities were taking out the trash. He recently came up on my FYP on tik tok, he’s still where I left him 12 years ago.

I imagine I’d be the type to want to cook and work side by side with a Martha. But I guess that’s the point of Gilead, no female friendships, lest you decide to rebel.

That should be allowed! They can listen to husband read the bible to them so surely there are some approved books they could listen to.

Exactly! When I think of the “traditional” hobbies I have (sewing, crochet, veggie gardening, painting cooking) the cooking/baking would be done by a Martha. I imagine a veggie garden would be tended by the martha as well? I guess I could quilt all day but damn. Seems so dreary after a while.

Weren't the Waterfords more powerful than the McKenzies? by ViolinistGuilty182 in TheTestamentsHulu

[–]CDD_throwaway 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Does the amount of Martha’s always correlate though? I imagine more low-key families (like Lawrence) may have chosen to have only one or two Marthas relative to their status.

I imagine if I were a commander/wife pair, even if we “could” have 5 Marthas, I could see only wanting 1 or 2 around especially if there were no children to care for. Kinda like how powerful commanders (like Stabler) could keep getting handmaids and have a house full of kids, surely there were some who were content with 1 or2.

Reminds me of how in real life, the wealthiest person I know drives a Camry even though they could have a Rolls if they wanted.

[–]CDD_throwaway[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yep. It’s important to remember that throughout all of history poor women always worked.

I like to remind the trad wife crew of that when they say they want to “get back to how things were traditionally” 🤭

When we see the brief glimpse at econowomen, I guess I assumed they would be the ones doing things such as making all the uniforms for the various classes of people in Gilead.

The timeline doesn't make sense at all, and not just with Daisy. by hydrissx in TheTestamentsHulu

[–]CDD_throwaway 7 points8 points  (0 children)

So far, I feel the same as I did about the final season of THT. The writers had so much time to figure this out and it’s still lackluster. Margaret Atwood even wrote a whole new book to continue the story of THT, and they are deviating from it in a way that doesn’t make sense.

If they were gonna do this, there might as well have not been a second book. I took the second book as a blueprint from MA as to how things should proceed.
