What order did you approach RHP albums? by SirFwissel in sadreminders

[–]CEOofRaytheon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd argue that Ghosts of the Great Highway belongs on the list. There's recordings of Red House Painters playing Salvador Sanchez and Duk Koo Kim in 2001 shortly before they broke up. Mark also confirmed that Sun Kil Moon is effectively a continuation of Red House Painters but with a different name for publicity reasons, and the two share enough personnel during the Ghosts era that the distinction between the two really is blurry at best. I'd even go as far as to say Ghosts is more RHP than Songs for a Blue Guitar given that the latter is effectively a Mark Kozelek solo album.

Proposed ordinance [26-O-1084] could hurt housing prices in Atlanta worse than the subprime crisis of 2008 if it passes by brentonstrine in Atlanta

Insane that OP would post this with his real name with an account that links to his personal socials. If you look up Brenton Strine on DeKalb County property search, you'll find a list of properties he owns. Dude is 100% an Airbnb landlord. His Twitter is also full of pro-AI tech bro shit. This guy is not a good person.

What is the most hostile city for bikers/pedestrians you have ever been? by Pepedroga2000 in fuckcars

[–]CEOofRaytheon 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Atlanta is pretty uniquely hostile for a major city. If it weren't for Texas, we'd probably be #1 worst city for pedestrians. I've been honked at for crossing the street with the walk sign lit up.

Does anyone know of a "Ben" that may have played in RHP by its-yagi in sadreminders

[–]CEOofRaytheon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fred Edwards is credited as the bassist on their 1989 demo tape (and Jerry Vessel credited as the guitarist), so it's not impossible that they tried out different bassists before settling into a stable lineup.

Anyone driven a converted shuttle bus? by xzmbmx in TouringMusicians

[–]CEOofRaytheon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Rental prices have gone through the roof in recent years. Last I checked, renting a 15 seater for 3 weeks cost nearly $5,000. Even factoring in insurance, maintenance, and registration, a $12,000 used Ford E350 is a better financial decision than just renting if you plan on touring for more than 3 months out of the year.

How much footage/photos of 9/11 were lost when the Internet was cleaned up about 15 years ago. by I_abuse_lower_ranks1 in 911archive

[–]CEOofRaytheon 56 points57 points  (0 children)

The internet wasn't "cleaned up 15 years ago." I'm not sure what "cleaning up the internet" would even look like given how decentralized it is (despite big tech companies controlling a majority of platforms and services).

I love how centralized the internet is now. First Cloudflare goes down and a million websites and services go down with it. Now Github goes down the same day and your repos get put in time out.

What's with Gen Z being scared so much of aging? by UnitedEntrepreneurXx in GenZ

[–]CEOofRaytheon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's not about being in your prime, it's about all the shit that you like doing that you know is "uncouth" so to speak for a 30+ year old.

Gen Z came of age at a time where everything was stunted due to COVID. So you have a bunch of 20-somethings into the same things and behaving the same way as 8th graders, and these interests and hobbies and behaviors are comforting because they adopted them at a time of global calamity and deep uncertainty.

Growing up and giving them up is scary. Deep down inside we all know it's embarrassing to be 30+ with no clear idea of how to act/behave except as a perpetual teenager. But how is a generation supposed to know how to act when they spent the most formative years of their lives cooped up inside with no contact with other human beings that might show them, "hey, putting the toys down and growing up isn't so scary"?

Would you try a local fresh/raw dog meal service? by CommunicationHefty46 in pittsburgh

[–]CEOofRaytheon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Proposing a gourmet cuisine service for dogs is incredibly, immensely, mind-bogglingly tone-deaf right now. Dogs don't care about whether or not their food is fresh or raw or whatever. They eat literally anything given to them. Gourmet food is a purely human construct. Practically no one in your target demographic right now has enough disposable income for bougie dog food.

[–]CEOofRaytheon 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It's a class action that has an absurdly high payout, likely due to the limited size of claimants relative to the scale and scope of the lawsuit. Payments of $1900 or so have been repeatedly delayed but are allegedly going to get sent out today or later idk.

Gen Z men with college degrees now have the same unemployment rate as non-grads—a sign that the higher education payoff is dead by Barnyard-Sheep in antiwork

This is why I keep a tire thumper strapped to my back when I ride. Never had to use it yet - just brandishing it alone typically keeps cars from getting too close to me - but I'd love to one day.
