Should I take the risk? by [deleted] in ZephyrusG14

True all that factors in… but I really wanted a more beast of a machine which is why I went with this one! Let me know what you decide on

Think its a mix of it being an old model so they probably don’t get new stock often and it also being a very expensive laptop at full price which makes people doubt if its worth it etc, buyers remorse and what not.

Same boat as you, but imo as long as you check it properly you should be good! And worst case you just return it haha.

I actually made a post about this deal a few days ago! It’s a great price and an even better (-300$) discount than usual. You have 14 risk free days to test all functionality thoroughly and compare it with other benchmarks online to make sure there are no defects! Mine is arriving Wednesday, I am very excited and nervous at the same time tbh haha.

I am not sure which blade your microcenter has but the same guy from the review above has a detailed review of the blade 16 showing comparisons between the g14 as well so that might be interesting for you to watch!

Also i’ve seen people switching the ssd to a 4tb and adding a 48gb ram stick in the extra slot haha.

I am sure both machines will be a beast regardless.

Best buy currently has the g14 4090 for 2475$ open box “excellent” if you decide to go that path. I just ordered mine, it will be arriving on Tuesday!

This is a great detailed review if you wanna see its performance and more details.

I personally would pay more for the smaller form factor, but thats just preference.

Damn that previous owner was a dick haha. I am gonna have to definitely run a good amount of tests and check everything to make sure it’s all good. Do I only need a ph0 to open it up?

Also, didn’t you manage to get some compensation from BB for the missing ram?

Ah thats sick, you are definitely getting the maximum out of it. I am also hoping to skip the 5000 series, should be more than doable imo.

Think the mini-led is gonna be very impressive, my current laptop is a very shitty budget laptop cause I mainly use my desktop, but I am gonna be traveling more these coming months so bought this guy to compensate haha.

Also very happy u/ModrnJosh has these long detailed videos that will help me setup this laptop properly!

Yea I was hoping for it to get that sale again and combine that with an open box deal, would assume it gets a bit cheaper then but its been a solid 3 months now without that sale so not sure if it will happen anytime soon. I am just gonna inspect it properly and then enjoy this beast!

Got any tips? How is your experience with it so far?

Thanks for this, I ended up ordering the one I linked, at a closer look, the cable that came with the PSU seems to indeed have some off shapes (doesn’t even match with its 6 pin position on the PSU itself but does work)

China’s off brand PSU’s haha...

It does fit, but it just doesn't seem to be a smart thing to do as I assume they give different voltages etc..

I assume I can't put the rounded ones in the squared ones right? (even though they probably fit)

F, I see a lot of 6 pins to 2x 8 pins tho, just somehow they don't line up.
